Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about Nelson Mandela and his achievement and positive impact on Africa and the world.
Central Idea: Nelson Mandela’s struggle and achievement in South Africa and around the world.
Introduction: Attention Getter: Take a moment and think this situation. You are young and ambitious. Your dream is to free your people and your country. You decided to protest anyway against the white oppressive government in a racially divided country. But your actions landed you in prison for nearly three decades. Your dream shuttered. You have no visitors. For years you cut off from the world. What would you do? Can you guess who I am talking about?
Topic Reveal: Today, I’ll be sharing with you the life and achievement of Nelson Mandela.
Credibility: I admire some people in this world but my number one living legend is Nelson Mandela. I admire his perseverance and determination to free South Africa from Apartheid. I remember when he was released from prison, the world rejoiced with him.
Preview: I will talk about his Childhood and Education, the African National Congress (ANC) and his years behind bars, finally Mandela’s later years and legacy.

I. Nelson (Madiba) Mandela is an amazing man who changed history in South Africa and brought democracy to the nation.
A. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in Qunu, South Africa. His father was principal counselor to the Acting King of the Thembu. A member of the Madiba clan, Mandela was raised amongst royalty.
1. When he was 12 years old, his father died, but his guardian, the tribal king, ensured he received the best education. Mandela was the first in his family to receive a formal education.
