An archetype is a symbol that appears in literature, but there are also generalized patterns of archetypes that can be found through time and across cultures. When we study literature, these symbolic threads can be seen in plot elements, the setting or background, and/or character development. The development of these characters in a work of literature may be done on an unconscious level by the author, the author may recognize a pattern in work and further build upon it--to accomplish a desired dramatic effect. The film I decided to write about as an example is Nemo, the Disney motion picture.
Archetypes abound in the movie “Nemo.”. Some relevant archetypes are the characters Nemo, Dory, Marlin, and Crush . Nemo is a strong example of an archetype because he appears in the movie throughout the film. An example from the movie is when Nemo disobeys his father, Marlen, and touches the “butt” also known as the back end of the boat . This scene depicts that Nemo doesent like his father and want to make his father mad. Another example is when Marlen comes and sves his son by going all the way across the bay just to find his son. The effect of this scene on the audience is love and a care. Dory is not only the Sidekick of Marlen but also shows as a bestfriend archetype in movies or stories. In fact, the Sidekick is quite common. Superman has a sidekick as did Batman. The Sidekick archetype is effective because the hero always needs help in some sort of way. My Setting archetype is in the ocean. The ocean can be compared to the quest of life, and how Marlen went half way across the ocean just to find his son. Nemo I thought was a great example as an archetype because not only does it put everything out there in big letters but it still sends a great
