The topic which I have chosen for this essay is Net neutrality. I will outline how it is governed and look at how the standards set affects the people who use it.
The Internet is not owned by or governed by any one person or country in particular but there are many people, groups, and organizations which play a part in defining and carrying out Internet governance activities. The Internet Society is one of these leading groups and has always been an active leader in such discussions.

[1]Net neutrality is the name given to describe the principals and standards used on the internet that the people who use it should adhere by. It is also referred to as Network neutrality or Internet neutrality but which ever name is used the principles and standards are same.
Net neutrality provides a free and neutral platform for all who use it. This makes sure that Governments and Internet service provides treats everyone the same and that there is no discrimination or bias between rich and poor. It gives smaller businesses a fair and even playing field to compete next to bigger international businesses like Google or Netfliks for example. It gives users a platform to conduct their business easily and without a third party getting involved.
To use the Internet we all must have an Internet Service Provider to connect us to the Internet which they will charge you for. That is a lot of people using the internet and this is why the internet has to change from an Open internet to a Closed Internet as there are too many people using it so it will get congested and slow.
One idea which has been suggested is the Tiered Internet. This would help slow down the congestion and speed up the internet. The internet would be divided in to tiers which would determine Broadband speeds and the Users could opt for faster internet speeds. High speed tiers can be dedicated for websites with large broadband applications such as voice and streaming video. Why should people who download movies all the time pay the same price to Internet Service Providers as someone who downloads very little? This is being fair to the users who don’t download much data.
Companies like Google and Netflicks are making a lot of money from the internet but just don’t want to pay Internet Service Providers for their usage. They need Internet Service Providers so it is time that a closed Internet is introduced before everything comes to a complete
