Neuqua Valley Speech Team Analysis
“Public speech is the most valuable skill you can learn.” That’s the line that seems to start every awards ceremony spiel, every college essay, every application for speech captainship...oh hey, look. But despite the popularity of this idea, I feel there is a distinction to be made between the value of public speaking, and the value of being on the Neuqua Valley Speech Team. Over two years, I’ve learned that being a part of this team is more than just learning how to act, write, or prep a broadcast – it’s about learning how to connect with people, both in rounds and in real life. It is about responsibility and commitment to something greater than yourself. It is about striving to bring out the best in people. It is about discovering who you are through teamwork and collaboration, and I want next year’s novices to understand that. It is this preparation and groundwork that allows competition to run smoothly and efficiently. With that being said, I always like to ensure that I maintain personal responsibilities that align with the bigger picture. Before tournaments, I like to help coaches take attendance to make sure we have everyone we need to do our best as a team. By keeping things organized, this team can.... Recently, when our school had to opportunity to host Regionals, I decided to take initiative and set up to make sure that all rooms were equipped adequately to provide an ideal environment for each competitor to give their best performance. Additionally, as a room chair, I helped uphold important standards like punctuality and sportsmanship to represent our school well. Responsibility and organization are crucial to the wellbeing of the team. These traits bring about an optimal environment for individuals to perform and learn at the highest
