He explains that all the facility residents are clones of their “sponsors”. McCord provides the name of Lincoln's sponsor, Tom Lincoln, who lives in Los Angeles.
Lincoln's sponsor gives him some explanation about the institute. Tom agrees to help Lincoln and Jordan but secretly contacts the institute, who sends guards to capture the clones. Lincoln tricks the guards into killing Tom, allowing him to use Tom's identity.
Lincoln and Jordan plan to free the other clones. Posing as Tom, Lincoln returns to the facility. Jordan allows herself to be caught to assist Lincoln in his plan. The clones are freed, seeing the outside world for the first time.
I think that Hailsham is the more humane society. For example, the adults at Hailsham always tell the truth to the students and never give them false hope. While in The Island, the clones are under the impression that the island is a good place for them to go to, even though it is not. Second, it is better to be able to donate to more people than just your sponsor, like the clones do in Never Let Me
