Every country has New Year’s Day. Most countries celebrate New Year on the first of January, the same as Thailand and Australia. However, in Thailand they are celebrated New Year by themselves because they have a second New Year called Song Kran Day or Thai New Year’s Day. This essay will look at the similarities and differences between Thai and Australia New Year.

There are similarities between Thailand and Australia in regard to the weather and the habit to wear. Both Thailand and Australia celebrate New Year in summer. Thai people celebrate when their summer starts. Similarly, Australian people celebrate New Year in the middle of summer too. Most people buy new clothes for New Year, not only Thai people but also Australian people. Hence, there are similarities between New Year’s Day in Thailand and Australia.

There are other similarities of the celebration for New Year between Thailand and Australia. First, New Year’s Day is a Public holiday so Thai people go to their own town to visit their family and Australian People too. In some areas, Australian public transport is limited and in other areas, there are no services at all. For instance, there may be some traffic jam on the roads. Similarly, Thailand has some traffic jam on the roads and high ways to go to the countryside. Furthermore, Thai people make or bring food to give to monks, friends and neighbours, just as Australian people make or bring some food to friends and neighbours. Thus, both countries celebrate New Year in the similar way.

Despite the similarities, there are differences between Thai and Australia New Year relating to the traditions, how the festival is celebrated and the public holidays. The traditional history of Thailand is longer than Australia. For example, the
