Etymology
Aotearoa (often translated as "land of the long white cloud") is the current Māori name for New Zealand, and is also used in New Zealand English. It is unknown whether Māori had a name for the whole country before the arrival of Europeans, with Aotearoa originally referring to just the North Island. Abel Tasman sighted New Zealand in 1642 and called it Staten Landt, supposing it was connected to a landmass of the same name at the southern tip of South America. In 1645 Dutch cartographers renamed the land Nova Zeelandia after the Dutch province of Zeeland. British explorer James Cook subsequently anglicised the name to New Zealand.

Climate
Temperature
New Zealand has a largely temperate climate. While the far north has subtropical weather during summer, and inland alpine areas of the South Island can be as cold as -10°C (14°F) in winter, most of the country lies close to the coast, which means mild temperatures.
The average New Zealand temperature decreases as you travel south. January and February are the warmest months, and July is the coldest month of the year. In summer, the average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30ºC (70-90°F) and in winter between 10-15ºC (50-60°F).
Seasons
Summer: December – February
Summer in New Zealand is moderate to hot, with temperatures hovering around 20-30 degrees Celsius
Autumn/Fall: March – May
Temperatures during this time are a little cooler than summer but the weather can be excellent. Winter: June – August
Winter in New Zealand brings colder weather to much of the country, with snow in the south and rain in the north.
Spring: September –

Winter temperatures in Pompeii drop down into the 50s during the day. While the fall's rains tend to dry up, winters in Pompeii see an increase in wind, which can further chill you as you tour the ruins. The upside to visiting Pompeii in the winter is that crowds will be much smaller than at any other time of the year. You'll see fewer tour buses loaded down with tourists visiting the ruins. Because travel to Pompeii drops off in the winter, you might save money by braving the cold and wind during a winter trip.…

There is no summer since the temperatures never go above freezing, but there are 2 seasons summer and winter. These seasons are determined by the amount of sunlight. During the summer, there is about 24 hours of light, since the poles are pointed toward the sun. During the winter the pole is facing away from the sun, which makes there 24 hours of darkness. The Ice Cap climate is the coldest climate on Earth. The warmest month is about -16 degrees fahrenheit. The coldest month is about -70 degrees fahrenheit. During the winter, temperatures can reach -90 degrees fahrenheit. The coldest temperature ever recorded was -128.6 degrees fahrenheit. We may be blessed with four very different seasons but that often does not matter when it comes to photography. Some of the best photos I have ever taken are in the month of November with a beautifully crisp winter skit and gorgeous sun. Clients often come to me thinking photographs are only for summer, wrong! Unless it’s pouring down with rain, you will be surprised at what fabulous photos can be produced. I always work with my clients in the run up to the big day and we can always reschedule if the weather is not on our side.…
