Newton’s first law is the law of inertia and it states a body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. Some actions effected by this law are a quarterback throwing a football, a running back or receiver running for a touchdown, or a ball being kicked towards the uprights. When a ball is thrown or kicked it wants to keep traveling in a straight path. The amount of inertia that this ball has depends on how hard the quarterback throws it or the kicker kicks it. This law also applies to Passing, and kicking a football. The forces causing the acceleration of the football are a kickers foot and leg and the quarterbacks arm. Kickers must use a tremendous amount of force to hit ling field goals, but that is not the only factor. A kicker can have all the distance behind a kick and it could end up wide. This is where the angle of the kickers foot and leg swing is related to Newton’s second law. The footballs trajectory is directly related to this swing of the kicker’s leg. The same applies to a quarterback throwing the ball. If very little force is generated by the quarterbacks are the ball will not travel too far. If he was to throw a “hail mary” he would need a great amount of force produced from his arm muscles. The quarterback also needs to be very precise with the angle of his arm swing. This could very likely be the difference between a complete and an incomplete pass. Quarterbacks have the toughest job in professional sports. The ideal spot to place the ball is directly in front of
