The average NFL player’s income per year is 1.5 million dollars, but the highest paid player now is Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints. His pay is 31 million dollars not counting bonuses of any sort. Are professional players that are part of the NFL paid too much? Some might say that there are doctors and people like the president that really do save people's lives and help and that they should get paid millions. Then people like me saying that no they are not overpaid and that they are the best at what they can do. The odds of making the NFL is about 1.6% and that 1 injury may be the end of all of that, Not to blame the players but more like the people and the organizations themselves, without these players and without the youth that follow behind these big stars and NFL players there would be no Nike no Underarmour. NFL players are not paid too much because they are part of a multibillion dollar business and that they are just playing the game. The NFL is not over paying their players because the chances …show more content…
are 1.6% it's also not even the players fault that they are paid that way they are just the best at what they do and the people and the organizations are what set the prices and lastly without the high pay Nike and Under Armor organisations would be nothing. These players are not overpaid because the chances of you making it is unlikely the odds of making the NFL is 1.5% and how 1 injury can lose that chance. There are about 1,086,627 High school players about 310,465 are Seniors about 6.5% chance to make it to the NCAA and about 6,500 are getting scouted but only 350 are invited to the combine. 256 players are drafted. Even then youaren't paid as much as you think. The minimum salary is $420,00 and their income after taxes is 252,000. We all know what happen to him when about 4 years later some people say “the worst quarterback contract ever”. But these big deals aren't easy and some players don't get so lucky, “Athletes also earn their high pay by putting their bodies at risk every game, supporters argue. Professional sports are physically demanding and sometimes downright dangerous,” says (Glanville). “A serious injury can end a player's career,” he says. “Players’ earning potential is also limited by how long they can stay competitive, In many sports, players are considered past their prime by their mid-30s.” This shows that their play time isn't much and that is what make their pay. "It's just the careers are shorter. There's injuries that you have after you leave the game, brain injuries, whatever it is, nerve injuries. And it's just something that I feel as if there's no way someone who -- even if they did their three or four years in the league -- should have to worry about money for the rest of their lives."- on a interview with Odell Beckham Jrs Agent- Kevin Patra. In conclusion the chances that these “ball players” have a very small chance of making to the NFL and what you show the fans and how you preform is how you get paid. The players are not to blame for their high pay it's the people that watch it and the organizations that set the pay. These players are part of something much bigger then just come game. They are part of some big corporations that have the money to scout for these players and to buy and do anything these players will say or need. These players just wanna make a big name for themselves. Companies deal with buying equipment, stadiums, and everything in between. The people are what drive these players to such high pay. Millions of people watch the NFL for these players to perform at their best. So for the players to have to be placed in the middle of all of that it doesn't make it a daily job. To prove my point even very well known players that give their thought into how much NFL players are paid, ”The average athlete in these organizations makes about 10-15 percent of what the top athletes I described earlier do, according to the Huffington Post. So it only makes sense that the top athletes make so much. It is structured like a run-of-the-mill business. The top performers earn drastically more than the individuals on the bottom of the totem pole.” (O’Connor). Players are meant to just play the game and what they get paid is what the people upstairs have. The people that own these teams. ”Sports franchises are some of the wealthiest in the world. They take in revenue from a multitude of different platforms and are trendsetters in pop culture. Athletes aren’t overpaid, they are just chess pieces in one of the highest-grossing industries in the world.” - (O'Connor). This quote proves exactly what the point of why players get paid as much as they do. In conclusion it's not the players fault that they are overpaid or even the team it's just the people loving what they watch and putting it out their. It's the organisations that the NFL players put themselves around these high demand people. My final reason why people believe that NFL players are not paid too much is that because of them companies like NIKE or Under Armor are as a well known name as they are. Those companies are what supply these player to get what they need for these sports not only the players but the youth that is growing up and buying what these players get and getting what the kids want to play the sport they do. Not just the supplying but the stores themselves have scouting teams to find the best player that their level take them into their team force them to wear what they give them anything they want. These players that are young and are getting recruited have their faces all over the news and these NFL teams look at the rosters to where they see these big name companies use their best players in tournaments. It all starts with the youth having a dream and willing to do anything to get the chance to make it too the pros. Without the NFL the big name logo brands wouldn't be a thing. Nike gets 86% of their stocks off of athletic wear and sporting equipment. Sponsorship is one of the biggest deals that these businesses can sign to make their company to get more customers and big contract deals. The largest contributor to the Nike brand’s operating results is classified as sportswear, the tank tops and gym shorts and yoga pants and racerbacks we wear to the gym and on the trail. Sportswear brought home $5.9 billion last year, and if people want to be a stickler and restrict the answer to actual competitive sports, next on the list is running, responsible for $4.6 billion. Basketball is a reasonably close third ($3.1 billion), followed by men’s training ($2.5 billion), soccer ($2.3 billion), and women’s training ($1.1 billion). Golf, action sports (skateboarding, etc.) and football and baseball bring up the rear, Nike having unloaded its hockey division in 2008.
This just shows that the NFL isn't the only reason why and where they make their money and why these players can cost so much. In conclusion without the NFL being so successful these big name companies like Nike. The amount that the players get paid would be reduced. Even though these players don't physically help people nor do they make that big of a impact to the world. Some people would say that if the world had no football we would be fine. But if we had no doctors millions would be dead, I do agree that yeah we could live on without the NFL and that if we would have just lost doctors millions would be dead. Some people just say “ they're just playing ball”, and yes that's true too but how many more doctors do we have then NFL players. There are about 2,500 NFL Players currently and about 10 million doctors around the world. There aren't even that many people that can do what they can do these players are the best of the best. They all have gone to school and got the chance to pick what they wanna do. These people will never lose their job and if they do they have went to school long enough to go to another place how in the NFL if you don't stay being on of the best you're out of high pay. The team won't want the players and that can be stressful cause if they don't make it to a team they aren't part of the NFL anymore. And most football players don't have much planned after or if they get hurt. These guys all they do is football most of them don't major in anything so they won't have a job. The NFL is a risky work place and you don't have a lot of choices after wards or if something comes up. Unlike doctors they have a lifetime job and that they have way more chance to get another job. In conclusion NFL players are not overpaid because they are part of a multibillion dollar industry that has many other parts that make the pay of these players.
The chances of you making the NFL is at a 1.6% almost impossible, also the players are not to blame it's the youth and the people that continue to support it and continue to watch these players and pay for all of their games. The last reason NFL players get as much pay as they do is because of these big name companies like Nike, Under Armor, etc. These companies will do anything to get these player to wear their gear and to even sponsor some games. People should get a better understanding of why these players get paid as much as they do compared to a doctor. You should spread the news cause people go on strike about why they get players get paid so much and help spread understanding to everyone that these players play for the game and that the pay is a big
bonus.
