Nhi Entry Essay

As the Hispanic that I am, I am considered part of a large minority. A minority that at times believes that we cannot be as succesful as other ethnic groups. That is because as a person who lives in south Texas, we don't always have the resources and economic stability that is at times required if we wish to succeed. Some of us also believe that we don't always have equal opportunities to thrive in succes as well as others, myself included. NHI proves me and any other Hispanic that thinks alike- wrong. NHI is an outstanding opportunity to learn about myself and discover what it really is that I wish to pursue later in life. I learned about this program long before I even entered high school, and although I dearly wished to attend since my freshmen year , the lack of money kept me from doing so. When I found out that BISD was giving a few of us the chance to have the full experience of NHI with having to pay no expenses, I was overwhelemed with joy. I am aware of the impact that this program can have on you, and I want nothing more that to attend. I too, like many others that have already, want to be touched and moved by the immense amount of knowledge and wisdom that I know I can gain from this program .Interacting with other students like myself that are eager to learn more about themselves and about their future seems like an ideal way to spend part of my summer. Also, when I graduate from high school, my number one priority is to attend college out of state, for what I wish to pursue is a career that is best experienced out of Texas. My biggest issue with that wish of mine is that I have never really seen much of Texas , let alone other states, therefore the confidence that is required to take such a huge risk isn't always present. I believe that NHI can provide me with the confidence that I need in order to make that happen. I believe that when I am done with the eight day program, I will not only be filled with the confidence and communication skills that I need for college, but for the rest of my life as well. I want to be able grasp every bit of the essence of what the National Hispanic Institue really is. When I enter school as a junior once again in the fall, and reflect on my summer, I want to say that I had the most self fulfilling exeperince that any passionate student could have had. I want to take every opporunity that I can to learn, and be educated. Not only through the experiences that life itself has to offer, but by the experienced proffessionals that will be at LDZ as well whose highest regard is to teach young scholars like myself.
