Once the Medici family returned to the throne, Machiavelli was dismissed and jailed. Soon after he wrote his most famous work entitled The Prince, to Machiavelli The Prince was sort of a job application to show that he was omniscient and of much use as the advisor to Lorenzo de Medici. People did not see Machiavelli’s ideas as ones to hold on to. Lorenzo de Medici, along with the public, was horrified and disturbed by it’s contents. The Prince began to be criticized as immoral and wicked. Although Machiavelli’s The Prince was criticized for being unethical, it was not Machiavelli’s work that was corrupt and dishonorable, but the people of his times. Instead Machiavelli was merely commenting on the reality of Renaissance life.
Niccoló di Bernardo dei Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469, in Florence Italy. The young Machiavelli was a diplomat after the short-term fall of the Medici family rule over Florence in 1494.
