In his article: Is Google Making Us Stupid, the author Nicholas Carr describes how Internet searching influences he and his friends. He states that he became to lose “concentration” on books and long-articles. Therefore, he raises a view that we need to care about the Web information, although it makes human life more convenient. He wrote: “The Web [had] been a godsend to me as a writer. Research that once required days in the stacks or periodical rooms of libraries can now be done in minutes” (Para.3). Obviously, the Internet searching technologies, for instance, Google, it really helps us save times. In this case, there are so many people are enjoying the convenience of internet searching, the author mentions “I’ve had an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain, remapping the neural circuitry, reprogramming the memory” (para. 2). From my experience, few of my friends go to the library to search the information for their assignments or research papers. Most of them click the Google and find everything they want.
In conclusion, it reduced our ability to focus and paying patient on long paragraph, neither books nor articles on the website. Apart from the author, many people have the same feeling.
For example, Friedman, a blogger who write about the use of computers in medicine also said: “I now have almost totally lost the ability to read and absorb a longish article on the web or in print” (para. 6).
