Elie Wiesel wrote the novel “Night”. This novel was based on his experiences as a Jewish child during the holocaust. Wiesel was one of four children, he had 2 older sisters and 1 younger sister. They grew up in Romania with their mother and father. In 1940 during the war his father was invited to a meeting where they discovered the Germany army was transporting everyone in his town to ghettos. In may of 1944 the German authorities deported most of the Jewish community to Aushwitz concentration camp.In this concentration camp he was separated from his mother and three sisters, but he did remain with his father for a majority or his time spent in the concentration camps. When they arrived at aushwitz they were taken to a shower to strip of all clothing and disinfect, then they were sent to the barber and then sent to get their number tattooed on their arm . Their identity was completely confiscated from them.Elie worked hard and remained as healthy as he possibly could or could seem so him and his father would last the constant checks. Elies father was nearly dead at the end but could only manage to keep him alive for so long before the guards realize he was not useful. Elies father was killed two weeks before American troops invaded aushwitz and slowly saved the remaining Jewish prisoners. When out Elie found out that his father, his mother, and his youngest sister did not survive.…

In the story Night by Ellie Wiesel, the main character meets horrible situations in his life. Elizer is only twelve years old when him and his family are taken to a consentration camp with other people that were Jewish just like him. In the begining Elie cared for his loved ones, but in the end all he cares about is himself. Night shows how cruel treatment chaned all the good people into savages. Ellie himself doesn't escape that fate, he becomes a brute himself too.…

One of Dylan Thomas’ most famous poems, Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night, is an emotional and passionate poem. It is a poem that is intended to cause fury. He is able communicate the theme of the poem by the use of figurative languages, such as metaphors and personification. Another effective way of writing Dylan uses is repetition. He uses repetition to emphasize words that are important in his writing and to express his theme. Using figurative languages such as symbols and metaphors and combining it with musical devices like repetition, allows Dylan convey the theme of the poem, which is to stir up anger and rage to fight against mortality.…

The concentration camps had a very negative effect on the people who ran them and the people in them: “I had to appear cold and indifferent to events that must have wrung the heart of anyone possessed of human feelings”. The guards questioned the orders they were given but they blocked out their doubts and replaced them with a cold and prideful attitude towards their camps. Throughout the book Night and in the article Commanding a Concentration Camp by Rudolf Hoss, the leaders of the camp would act out against the prisoners, causing a negative effect on them and how they treat each other. The beatings and punishments would have a negative affect on both the prisoners and the guards. The events and treatments of Elie and his father caused a change in their relationship throughout their time in the camps.…

When people are told they are something over and over and over, they may begin to believe that it is true, and indeed they begin to become it. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel there is a use of a heavy symbolism. The most redundant and most important symbols that are used throughout his memoir are those of animals. In this memoir the constant comparison of the Jews to animals is used in a negative connotation and so that we see how the Nazi’s really were dehumanizing the Jews as a whole. Some of the major animals that were used for symbolism include cattle, dogs, and lambs. Not only was the symbolism used to show how lowly the Nazi’s felt about the Jews, but also to show that continuing to call them these various animal names and treat them like the animals began to make them actually behave like these animals would, and by that they were dehumanized.…

The part that I personally found the most sorrowful in Night written by Elie Wiesel is when he and his father get separated from each other due to his father’s death. The bond between the two was unbreakable and they never thought that they would be able to get through it all without each other. They agreed that neither of them would let this bond fade. This is why when Elie and his father do get separated it is so heartbreaking. They had always agreed that they would of died for one another if it was necessary. Elie’s father became very ill due to the conditions of the camp. Elie was in denial of his father’s condition at first but he had to face the fact that there was no way he could possibly save him due to the lack of care that the prisoners received. His father’s conditions got so bad that eventually passed away. Elie witnessed his father’s death. When they had finally arrived at Buchenwald, Elie’s father was deathly ill. Fellow prisoners were cruel to him, denying him food as well beating him, as if they just wanted him to die already. He hovers between life and death for several days and all he wants is for Elie to be with him, constantly calling out to him. In the end, an angry guard takes his life by hitting him on the head with a deathly blow. He dies a slow and painful death while calling out to Elie. Elie feels responsible and feels a lot of guilt for his father’s death because he felt that he had done more for him he would have lived. I cannot imagine losing one of my parents, especially at such a young age like Elie. Let alone witnessing the death, and in that kind of environment. I felt for Elie because I am sure that at a point in time he himself wanted to die as well. I know I would. Throughout the whole novel there are many sorrowful parts, but I felt that the death of his father hit me the hardest.…

In the autobiographical novel, Night, by Elie Weisel, there is a persistent change in theme. The story begins in 1944 where Elie was very focused on learning about his religion from Moshe the Beadle. However, later on, the Jews were forced to move into ghettoes in their city. This began the lowest point in their lives. From then(There? meh), they were taken to various concentration camps such as Birkenau, Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and Gleiwitz. It wasn’t until April 10, 1945 that they were freed. Throughout the advancement of this novel, Elie’s feelings about himself, his family, and his God were altered while in concentration camps.…

    After Dark

“After Dark is a streamlined, hushed ensemble piece...Standing above the common gloom, Murakami detects phosphorescence everywhere, but chiefly in the auras around people, which glow brightest at night and when combined.” (The New York Times Book Review) The appraisal given by The New York Times undoubtedly highlights how the characters in the story of Haruki Murakami weave their lives together in just one night. The characters in this novel have established deeper and more meaningful relations with one another and are all connected to each other through some string of fate. In order to give more emphasis on the bonds of the characters in After Dark, another of Haruki Murakami’s works can be used: The Elephant Vanishes. In this short story, readers will notice how there is a detachment of the main character from forming any deeper bonds. There is already a limited number of people to interact with, yet there is a lack of connection among them. There is a clear difference between the relationships formed among the characters in After Dark as compared to the characters in The Elephant Vanishes.…
