During my 10th grade year, me and my fellow classmates volunteered for Keep Gastonia Beautiful. I got the chance to volunteer at the Gastonia Farmers Market where I got to help package earthworm kits. I got the chance to go to different parks throughout Gastonia, picking up trash and spreading out mulch on the playground. Our school actually recieved an award from Keep Gastonia Beautiful.…
My chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is Alpha Beta Zeta, located at Radford University. Each member is required to get 35 community service hours each semester. Service projects occur around the New River Valley and help a variety of community organizations. Because Alpha Phi Omega has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, we host many projects that allow us to help them facilitate big events. Projects I have worked on include: cleaning a local daycare center, performing trail maintenance along a portion of the Appalachian Trail, collecting food for Meals on Wheels, raising money for different causes, running youth programs for Boy Scouts and 4-H events, cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot, beautifying local parks, and many other programs. Over the…
The place where I conducted my community service was the Regional Food Bank. The Regional Food Bank receives large quantities of foods, drinks, and other necessities from suppliers throughout the northeast, such as Hannaford or Wal-Mart. Then, at the Regional Food Bank, all of the goods that came in get checked to make sure they aren't expired or have ripped packaging, which means that they can get sorted into boxes to be sent off to families in need or to homeless shelters. The Food Bank provides over 30 million pounds a year of food to 1000 different agencies. Each box at the Food Bank can only weigh 45lbs, so that means that around 660,000 boxes of food are sent.…
The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

A lot of my volunteer work has been through National Honor Society: the Red Out Events, the canned food drive, working at the Snack Shack during the summer, etc. National Honor Society is great because of all of the volunteer work that is available to you. Aside from National Honor Society, I have volunteered for Girl Scouts, the Christmas Festival, and the Junior Classic for the past four years!…
Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…
I have completed roughly 600 hours of community service. In addition to the organizations listed on my application, I have volunteered with the Salvation Army, Get Real Behind the Wheel, Delta Blood Bank, and at local junior golf and basketball camps. Get Real Behind the Wheel is a local organization that gives student drivers a safe environment to practice and they preach safe driving, educating students and parents of the dangers of driving.…
In FFA, I held several officer positions and participated in many community volunteer activities. Officer positions have included: Historian, Sentinel, and Reporter. Some Volunteer activities I’ve done include: Christmas Basket Food Drive, Wise Farm Clean-Up, Pumpkin Carving, and Spring BBQ and Plant Sale. In FFA I’ve also participated in State 3 years in a row for Prepared Public Speaking. Not only did I learn a lot of self-confidence, I learned research and interpersonal skills as well. This is definitely something that…
The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…
I am part of Beta, Science National Honor Society, and Key Club. These are other clubs which are honor societies, and weigh importance on volunteering. I am also a member of MD Junior and HOSA, which as not considered honor societies but also value good morals and volunteering. With experience in these clubs I believe I have gained experience and learned important skills, whether people skills or educational skills.…
I have partaken in TI@ti, sophomore year and currently, which is an organization based on increasing leaderships skills and increasing awareness against drugs and alcohol. Last year, I guided peers to make healthier life choices and to take positive risks. I stepped up when my advisors, Ms. Ramirez and Mr. Rosenfeld (at the time) needed presenters for the PTSO meetings, Saturday Academy for 7th and 8th graders, and for 600+ seniors who attended prom last school year. The Saturday Academy was a huge leadership role where I had to advise seventh and eighth graders on what to expect from high school. I volunteer at various locations such as for the 9/11 Day of Service, Jersey Cares Day, and Paterson’s Operation clean up. In all of these services, I did landscaping because I felt as if the…
In my undergraduate years, I volunteered for Medlife. This club runs a healthcare facility project in Peru which wanted to install medical camps for deprived districts. This was difficult since we did not have sufficient funds. I suggested to organize fundraisers at the university and resourcefully send volunteer teams to construct mobile clinics…
One thing that I like to do in my free time is volunteer. I have worked with many programs but the one that sticks out with me the most is…
I also volunteered at the humane society location out at the Fox River Mall. At this destination, located right in front of Sears, I helped collect donations and informed people about the shelter. I educated them about the services the shelter has to offer such as the rover done over program, pet wellness program, TNR program, therapy and puppy training, the rebound program.…
