Nightburn Dialectical Journal
“Your safety is my primary concern, my lord.” “All right then, contact your people and please keep this between you and me. Let’s keep Balthazar unaware of our arrangement for now.” “As you wish.” Sara bowed and left. Feelings of foreboding flooded his senses as the hair on the back of his neck stood out. Someone had listened to his conversation, and was residing in the shadows of his room. How had he not sensed this before? “Whoever is here, step forward. Do so quickly or face my wrath.” A tall, muscular man stepped forward. A knight, he surmised, wearing jade colored armor with a coat of arms on his chest plate that he did not recognize, figures of two fighting dragons adorned his gauntlets, and in his hands, he threateningly …show more content…

They asked for a volunteer to perform the task, and I gladly accepted.” Standing too far away for his daggers to be effective, although easily remedied very quickly, Nightburn could only smile and laugh at this simplistic attempt on his life. Why he felt so confident, he could not answer, but he knew if the man approached him, the man would die. Agitated by Nightburn’s demeanor, the man stepped forward, daggers raised. Instinctively raising his hand, everything froze, and totally incognizant of how he accomplished such a feat. Rising from his chair, he walked around the room and observed that nothing moved, even the flames of the oil lamps stood perfectly still. He walked to the door and opened it to see Sara stopped in mid-stride halfway down the corridor, then turned back to his room, noticing the clock pendulum had also stopped in mid-swing. Most curious, he thought, time had stopped and he didn’t know how he had achieved this or how he would correct it. Walking over to the would-be assassin, he studied his armor more closely, certain that he had not seen the emblem he wore or the knight in the castle before tonight as he carefully removed the daggers from his hands. With a swift slash to the neck, he ended his life, although no blood flowed from his wound nor did he fall or feel the fatal …show more content…

An unusual occurrence since for the last few weeks his routine was to eat all his meals in his room, but Sara had come by earlier to inform him that Balthazar had requested his presence this morning at breakfast. When he arrived at the feasting hall, he noticed an abnormally large number of guards present and Balthazar and Sara already seated, as well as Captain Bishop sitting next to Balthazar. In fact, surrounding most of the entire table were people he had never met before. The only seat remaining was at the head of the table and he made his way there. He sat down and looked to his left to offer his salutation to Balthazar and Captain Bishop and turned to his right, repeating it to Sara. A sizable feast sprawled out before him, although he didn’t know what they were celebrating, but Balthazar, when seeing his puzzled look, took it upon himself to explain that it was a great day for the order because they had found the amulet of Vilgoth, an item that they had been searching for these many centuries. He further explained that the amulet of Vilgoth, its origin unknown, was responsible for amplifying Vilgoth’s powers tenfold, allowing him to quash a person or being’s free will, and forcing them to follow him with enthusiastic devotion, completely unaware that their wills were not their own. However, the bad news was that the amulet was located within

I was only a member of the Fallen Lamb for a few nights at the time, but never had I seen the sea as beautiful as it was then. She glistened a deep blue, and clashed against the hard wood of the ship, waves rising until it hit the hull then falling back into the sea. Getting used to the constant rocking of the ship was incredibly difficult at first, but I managed to retain my balance after a week or so. Anyways, I made my way to the main deck, passing through the kitchen first so I could grab a bite to eat. All we had left for breakfast were apples that were once fresh, but old and bruised now.…

One could almost see Bowker’s stressed, confused, yet accepting face through the words in the letter. He’s pouring out his thoughts about life and his place in it, all along the way thinking about what he has said and what he’s going to say next as seen in the second part of the letter that Bowker shows: “God, this is starting to sound like some jerkoff vet crying in his beer. Sorry about that.” (150). It’s here that the roller coaster of emotion levels out a little bit and we can see direct evidence of Bowker start to use this letter as a platform for self-reflection. Generally self-reflection is supposed to be used to identify personal issues to fix them and eventually make yourself into a happier, better person. Here, Bowker attempts to…

A few seconds passed before the subject came out of the door. Those seconds felt like hours for the audience members in the amphitheater and felt like years for the man whose fate rested upon the subject, which was about to appear before him. The gaping black hole that filled the room behind the door smelled of tiger blood but that was no indication of which subject harbored the room. The audience remained completely silent, except for a few children’s muffled cries as their parents put their hands over the children’s mouths quickly, afraid of being spotted by the guards and persecuted on the spot. As the door swung fully open now, the man began backing up slowly. Whichever fate he had decided for himself, he was not prepared for. His footsteps could be heard from the top row of the amphitheater and the sound of the beads of sweat that trickled down his face to the sandy ground would be heard if one listened closely enough.…

“ Dr. Hinzman!” “Ah yes, my favorite student”. “ But how do you, why did you…” Well it's simple, after my family died, all I had left were swords, no owned house or way to pay for my current. I left. One day after learning of its possible existence, I became entranced with the thought of a sword that can cut through anything. I needed to have that sword, and now I do. I won't let you take my last love. “You know this is dangerous, who could get hurt, innocent people, with that sword. It must be.. “ENOUGH!” screamed Dr. Hinzman interrupting Detora's plea. “ I won’t have this! If you want this sword you'll have to take it. Detora was aware of his prowess with a sword, all his life he had trained with it, The odds of defeating or even disarming ere miniscule. As Dr. Hinzman strided forward swinging, Detora had to run. He ran through the entrance in which Dr. Hinzman came out and began to seek a place to hide. He grappled up onto the dining room chandelier and quickly leaped to the balcony. “ Ah there you are” Hinzman said approaching him. The fight was inevitable. Mason pulled out his hidden blade and readied…

I approached him leaving no room for hesitation in my actions. His face frozen, he seemed to mull the words over in his mind. The blade went in and I hear his gasp, as if his soul is escaping in that one, rushed, outward breath. His eyes are fixed on mine, and I can see his pupils dilate in the darkness, strangely, slowly, as his mouth opens and closes like a stunned fish out of water.…
