Nightmare coming true
A Nightmare Coming True The house was filled with silence after a long day of people tracking their mess in and out of the house. I was sitting on the loveseat as the door slowly crept open. My aunt slowly tiptoed in the door, quiet as a mouse to match my mom. As I walked down a pitch-black hallway, all I heard was my uncle saying, “This could be the night.”. I slowly walked down the pitch-black hallway that seemed four times as long as before. Tossing and turning that night, I tried to get some sleep. My room felt as if it was a long winter night, so dark I couldn’t see my hand a foot in front of my face. I could hear the pitter patter of footsteps throughout the whole house. Suddenly the hallway light turned on as it made its way under my door. Just a second later my door flung open as fast as lighting! Hearing “Jaelyn I think you need to come talk to your mom.” in the sweetest voice. My stomach drops. All I could think was; this is the end. The time it took me to take the twenty steps to the living room, her body was already lifeless. Asking myself over and over, “What am i going to do?”. I sat at her bedside holding her hand, hoping this was all just a bad dream. Watching her leave the house for the last time was the worst gut-wrenching pain. I thought back to the time when she said, “After I die, I’m going home.”. The feeling of never getting to hear her voice, laugh, or see her smile again was unbearable. Knowing this wasn’t a dream, my worst nightmare came true.

I tried to get actual words out but all could come out was, “Mmm… Amm.” “Sydney.” I nodded, feeling like a stupid dizzy bobble head. “You were in a car accident, and also you are in the hospital right now.” Dad told me. “This is probably going to be hard on you but…” He stopped, and I thought I heard him crying. “Your… Mom… Is…” He stopped again then he started, “ Dead.” My whole world collapsed with that word. I was gone without my mom. I curled up into a ball of sadness, never coming…

The wind howled around me like a pack of starving wolves as I entered the cemeteries rusty iron gates. Yet it seemed so wild and chaotic that it reminded me of home, so it didn’t bother me at all, I was used to it. My brother’s headstone was only a ten minute walk away so I let myself drink in the moonlight and the memories the cemetery held. I remembered the first time I went there with my mother, just after Jason died... She led me down the now familiar mud track past the eerie, dancing trees, to the spot she planned on burying him. And it wasn’t until I was standing in front of the headstone that I realized he was gone ; that was the first time I truly cried. I slowly walked down the pebbly path and admired the cherry blossoms that were flourishing around the graveyard. It was a cold Aprils night and it was going to be dark soon.…

Before I could even comprehend, my aunt was convulsing, with eyes rolled back and foam forming at the mouth. Hurriedly, my mom pulled her out of her wheelchair and rolled her on her left side. When the paramedics arrived, it felt like the universe was in slow motion. Voices seemed a million miles away, like soft echoes ricocheting off ragged cave walls. I was infinitely in shock; I could not process my surroundings. Mom rode in the ambulance, while I rode in Grandma Vita’s car. This moment would be the last time I saw Aunt Dori until tomorrow. The hospital was abnormally clean. Some rooms emitted no sound, however, others squealed well into the night. I never in truth noticed patients. Windows and cemented columns at every turn. The air conditioner was blasting from all angles. The doctors came by and solemnly murmured they desired to speak with my mother in private. Their eyes said to leave. Furious, I stomped off to the visitor waiting area. I may have appeared enraged on the outside, but it was all a charade. On the inside I was panic-stricken and somber. What was wrong with Aunt Dori? Why could I not attain answers? Mom returned with a pained expression on her face as the doctors calmly strode away. I recall her breaking the news to me sighing, “Do not worry, sweetheart. Everything is going to be fine.” She relayed the information from the doctors frankly, holding nothing back.…

    The Twilight Zone

The last thing I remember is falling asleep during a late night rerun of the Twilight Zone. So when it happened, it was especially eerie, like I had stepped into a lost episode, but Rod Serling was nowhere in sight; for moment, neither was anybody else. At 4:31 AM a merciless shove pushed me off my bed. I crawled on the floor, trying to escape the cruel, uncontrollable shaking, but it followed me. It followed me down the stairs and underneath the dining room table where my family joined me. Little did I realize that before the morning sun rose again, I would see everything differently.…

John Strober lurched from slumber, instantly greeted by the ghost-white face of his eight-year-old daughter. She propped herself on the side of the mattress, knobby elbows and all slowly sinking into the comforter. A gloomy expression clouded the once puffy-red of her cheeks in a gray hue, casting her eyes in a radiant sapphire brilliance. Yawning widely as he propped his spine against the headboard, John stole a glance at the bedside clock and dismally noted that it was only six in the morning. “Everything alright, princess?” John rubbed his eyes. “I had a nightmare.” Daisy exhaled with a shiver and paused for a fleeting second. Her eyes never left the floor. “Daddy…what – what happens when you die?” The question lingered in the air. Still groggy and…

I closed my eyes and as I opened them I was looking straight at my mother. That instant our eyes were locked I never wanted the lock to break. Another tear slipped down, and I could taste the salty warmth on my tongue. The crash took five seconds but it felt like ten years. This time I heard the words “I’m wrong mom. I’m sorry mom.” In an instant the noise grew so loud it seemed like I was standing in the middle of a nuclear bomb. Not a second later it was silent and the world around me went pitch…

I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…

“Nallie, this is your Aunt Jelly. Jerro was caught in an accident and he was rushed to Medical City. He’s critical.” My phone fell as I felt numb about what I heard. I swiftly drove to Medical City with tears streaming down my face. When I arrived, I hurriedly went to the Emergency Room and there, I saw Uncle Ford and Aunt Jelly holding each other’s hand, silently crying and praying. I approached them and asked how’s Jerro. But she told me that they didn’t know because the doctor hasn’t came out yet. I sonorously whispered that “I wish all of these is just a nightmare. A terrifying nightmare.” To alleviate the misery, she squeezed my hand and told me, “Everything will be perfectly fine. Jerro is a strong man. We’ll just continue praying for him, okay?” I nodded as a response. After a while, the doctor came out bearing a bad news. He said that Jerro is in a coma and might die eventually if his organs will fail to function normally again. That crushed me, bigtime. That prompted me to ran hastily to the MC Chapel. I was crying so hard while praying when a girl tapped me in the shoulders and handed me a hanky. Seconds passed, she sat down beside me and spoke. “You know what? When I was 9 years old, we consulted a doctor about my condition and he said that I’ll probably die on the following month. When I heard that, the thought of dying so young hit me. Instead of bathing in a river of tears, I prayed always and had my faith grew stronger. And now I’m 12 years old then tomorrow I’ll be a year older. Whatever the doctor said to you is somewhat, a test of faith. It doesn’t matter how good or how wicked you are down here. What matters to Him is that how sincere you are with your faith and trust. Just have a strong faith and don’t forget to trust Him because faith won’t work without trust. Bye unnie?” “Nathalie…

It was 7:59 in the morning and I could already smell my favorite Thanksgiving meal. I could almost taste the melted cheddar cheese on my nana’s green bean casserole. My alarm went off and it’s now 8, as I started to get out of bed, I wondered why my brother hadn’t come to wake me up yet? Is he still sleeping or did they leave me home again. I jumped out of bed hoping he’s still sleeping. I run through the house terrified they left to nana’s house for Thanksgiving without me. I reach my brother’s room burst through his door with the relief that he was still here sleeping. As soon as I closed his door, I heard his little footsteps run to his door and “BOOM” his door flew open, “where are you going Skie?” he asks. I responded telling him “to my room to get dressed so we can go to nana’s” “oh okay” my brother replied. As I walked into my room and closed my door, I could hear my brother yell at the top of his lungs “Daddy wake up, it’s Thanksgiving and time to go to nanas”. I was dressed within 15 minutes and so was the rest of the household, including my stepmom, dad, brother, and little sister. It was 8:20 and we had to be at my nana’s house by nine. So we all loaded up into the car and set off to nana’s house. About 25 minutes later we arrived at nanas everyone else is already here, which meant we were the last ones here again. But that’s okay; nana wouldn’t let us miss anything because we’re her favorite grandchildren. My dad is the first to go inside. Now my brother and I were carrying the baby bags inside. I looked in the kitchen for my dad but I don’t see him, I go to the living room. My dad, uncle, and cousin were drawn into the football game on TV. It’s the Packers vs. the Steelers, my dad’s favorite team against my uncle’s favorite team. Before it gets too rowdy in the living room, I turned to walk outside to play out traditional family football game with a few uncles and cousins. It was my Uncle Bobby, Cousin Kyle, and I against my Uncle Peter, and…

She died exactly one year ago. She was heading home from work to pick me up for my dancing-lesson. I stood there for a long time, waiting for her at the sidewalk to our house. I remember everything very clear before I found out. I stood and waited for exactly 40 minutes, and I got so worried when my lesson already had started and my mom hadn't arrived yet. I tried to call her work, but they said she'd already left. Then I called her cell, I only got to her answering message every time, - Hi! this is Maria, I can't answer the phone right now so please leave a message after the tone... I left three messages.…

The next day my mom called one of my relatives. She was calling one of my older cousins. I didn’t hear too much of their conversation. All I cold hear was my mom talking. “Do you have something for Develle to do,” she stood there for a couple of seconds. Soon she said, “It is for his school project, he has to do a good deed.” “Ok I will let him know,” she said. After that the conversation ended. My mom hung up the phone and walked out of the kitchen.…
