Night expresses darkness and of something being lost. The book, Night, by Elie Wiesel is an autobiography of Elie’s childhood which occurred during the gruesome time period of the Holocaust. In “Night,” the word, night, symbolizes suffering, death, and how all this suffering and death caused Elie to lose his faith in God.…
The second part of the poem ‘Nightfall’ continues the story of the child forty years from ‘Barn owl’, where she had lost her innocence by shooting an owl and this had resulted in a heavy hearted guilt which was caused by her unknowing and stubborn actions. The poem represents death closing in on the father, and the limitations of time on their relationship that was never experienced before in her younger years. The father, who in the first poem is depicted as an “old no-sayer”, is now held in high esteem, he is admired and respected as an “old king”. The extended metaphor “Since there is no more to taste ripeness is plainly all. Father we pick our last fruits of the temporal.” Appeals to our senses and is now an aural metaphor, it illustrates the father’s life becoming fulfilled or ripe, it has come near to its end and the father and child will now spend or pick the last moments of the father’s life together. Over time her appreciation of her father has changed, this is shown through “Who can be what you were?” and “Old King, your marvellous journey’s done.” She has realised the valuable life her father has led and the great loss that will be felt after he is gone. The child, now a grown woman learns another lesson about death, it can be quiet and peaceful, and “Your night and day…

I enjoy listening to this song anyways as it is in my native language and one of my top childhood songs. The song is about a couple who is in love with each other but when the guy has to leave for the US, they broke up. He later returns and the love is still there. This is a very cute story and I love singing the lyrics that describes his feelings for her as he was away. If I broke up and get back together with my boyfriend, I would want this to be our scenario, that we broke up and got back together because of distance or circumstances, not because we wanted this. I also love how there are english lyrics sung with deep emotion in the song: “I will be back for you.” The music video for the song is also very heartwarming and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. If I got back together with my ex, I could listen to this song to remind me of my feelings for him. This song is a great song that evokes strong emotions from me and makes me think about love and how strong it is to overcome lots.…
When listening to the song the first time I experienced hatred and sadness. And I believe that I experienced this due to my connection to the song. Like how I was abandoned by a parent and how my life has been about me fighting with myself.…
"I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others — young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life." Chapter…
Robert Frost's “Acquainted with the Night” describes a life that is filled with depression caused by isolation. Many believe this could have been written from Frost's own personal experiences, since it is well known that he experienced a very sad life with the losses of many of his close relatives. This would have left him feeling alone and detached, therefore giving him the inspiration for this poem. When examining the title's literal meaning, one can see Frost’s illustration of how he is very familiar with these dark and lonely feelings that seem to come with the night. The night, and these feelings, are nothing new to him. He uses an exceptionally descriptive setting, diverse symbols, and a unique style to develop his poem. In this poem Frost uses many symbols like the rain, the watchman, and the moon to illustrate the speaker’s depression, as…
Have you ever had something beautiful in your life once, but someone tore it away from you, and destroyed it? You ever have the feeling that nothing matters to you anymore?. If you have ever had this experience, All you get is the memory, and the hurt. Physical pain is the not only a way to relieve you from your memories.…
The lyrics have a powerful message hidden within it. Neo artist are known to write about love and how life with someone is intended to be .When listening to a neo-soul artist they are really detailed and expressive in getting their message across no matter what the subject maybe.…
The poetic tone of the lyrics in “Getting Through” expresses the inescapable crushed and drawn-out feeling of heartbreak, while also hinting at its refusal to become extinct. “So I go on loving you,…” informs the reader that the heartbroken speaker is confronting the source of his or her pain (14). Unlike many narrators addressing the subject, this crushed soul is not begging to be taken back, but instead wants the oblivious cause to be aware of the uncontrollable and persistent love felt toward him and the torturous pain that has resulted. Unfortunately, as anyone who has ever had their heart broken knows, these words are futile as they go “…hurtling past,/ like a train off its track/ toward a boarded-up station,” (18-20). The speaker knows that this admission of love will not change anything, yet she still feels the need to express herself. There are no hints of hope or of a change of heart. In fact, it seems like the heart has been broken for quite a long time since there is a “deepening skin” of dust and the heart of the recipient is compared to “…a boarded-up station,/ closed for years,” (12, 20-21). The refusal, or possibly the inability, to move…
Often, the theme of a novel extends into a deeper significance than what is first apparent on the surface. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, the theme of night and darkness is prevalent throughout the story and is used as a primary tool to convey symbolism, foreshadowing, and the hopeless defeat felt by prisoners of Holocaust concentration camps. Religion, the various occurring crucial nights, and the many instances of foreshadowing and symbolism clearly demonstrate how the reoccurring theme of night permeates throughout the novel.…
The speaker of this poem is explaining of what the night consist of in his opinion. In the first line, the speaker right away tells the readers that he well acquainted to the night. The speaker seems to have good knowledge of the night and also enjoys it, as what the reader can capture from the first line. In line 2 and 3 the speaker begins to explain about a journey him/her in a rainy night while leaving a city. The speaker is explaining of what a night consist of trough a walk through a rainy night leaving a particular city. It seems that he enjoys walking regularly in the night, a reason to belief that the speaker is well acquainted to the night, because walk and observe the night regularly. In the next stanza, line 4 to 6, the speaker says that he/she leave the city through the saddest lane of the city where he encounters a watchman, which he completely ignores. It is to say that the speaker is making a statement he/she does not care about a time…
In Night, the setting gives a variety of moods, from hopeless to happy, which often foreshadows the events to come soon after. Elie Wiesel writes, in many occasions, about the setting being at night when setting a mood of suspense or depressing matters. As the father is away receiving the new orders for their district, “Night fell. Some twenty people wait in the courtyard” (12). The large amount of people sets the mood as a suspenseful one. The people wait eagerly, hoping the news is not as they fear. However, in this novel, night is never cheerful. As the father finally approaches and reveals the news, night had already given the hint that it’s not good. Wiesel mentions the growing darkness as things go from bad, to worse and gives a hopeless setting.…

This quote from the poem helps to set the mood of the rest of the story. The story opens up with the writer telling about the main character Leonard Mead getting ready to take a walk in the city around eight p.m. He goes on to talk about how the character enjoys taking these walks and didn’t know which way to go, but it didn’t matter because not only was he alone outside he was also alone in the world. Then the quote comes in and talks about what the author sees while he takes his routine nightly walks through the city. The main character relates walking by the people’s homes is equivalent to that of walking past a graveyard. Everyone is watching television in their homes and the light from the televisions light their homes, which give the homes a dark, dead lighting. In the end when they describe Mead’s home it is well lit and, “every window a loud yellow illumination, square and warm in the cool darkness,” which is the opposite of every other house in the neighborhood.…
