Für das Erlernen der Vergangencheit der Ukraine, ihrer Geschichte benutzen wir auch die Zeugnisse der ausländischen Wanderer, Kaufleute, politischen Funktionäre.Diese Berichte sind eine wichtige zusäzliche Quelle für die Vertiefung in die Geschichte des ukrainischen Volkes.Dieser Stoff dient zugleich auch für die wissenschaftliche Eörterung der Geschichte der Ukraine.Die Erinnerungen vieler Ausländer helfen uns dabei; besonders beim Erlernen der Tierwelt, des Pflanzenreichs, der nationalen Besonderheiten der Bevölkerung, ihrer Sitten, Bräuche, Kultur.
Eine der ältesten Beschreibungen der Ukraine gehört den Araben, die sich für die Nachbarvölker für Handelswege interessierten.Dazu trugen die Kaufleute bei, die Kiew und andere ukrainische Städte zu besuchen.
Aus byzantischen Quellen erfahren wir über die Große und Militärkraft der alten Ukraine-Russ.
Unter den Zeugnissen der Ausländer, sind auch die Zeugnisse der französischen Kartograffen, Ethnographen Gijomm-Lewasser-de-Boplan (1660-1673).Sein Werk “Die Ukraine. Schilderungen” ist eine der wichtigsten Quellen, woraus wir vieles über die Ukraine im 17 Jahrhundert erfahren können. Dazu gehören auch die Karten der Ukraine, die man für die besten in jener Zeit hielt.Das ukrainische Volk wurde als arbeitsames freiheitsliebendes talentvolles Volk geschildert. Auch die anderen negativen und positiven Charakterzüge wurden nicht verschwiegen, obwohl die persönliche Eindrücke in Vielem subjektiv sein können. Dabei muß
