The poem Near Misses by Laura Kasischke is about how she realizes she has no control over whether she lives or dies and is grateful to be alive. The poem starts with all the times she nearly missed death. These stanzas are very literal, except for the line “something spinning and made of history” in the third stanza. This resembles the later parts of this poem. After the stanzas explaining the times she nearly missed death, the poem changes slightly. It is a lot less literal, using much more imagery, metaphors, and personification. This part of the poem also states that she is a “middle-aged woman scanning the cans on the grocery store shelf.” This stanza is primarily focused on the present. The last stanza however, focuses more on the future…

Fifth Element star, Milla Jovovich is sitting on the bed, wearing little more than her birthday suit, gazing longingly into the eyes of the man before her. Every detail of her body is in perfect focus. Her forehead glistens with the shimmer of an unconfident sweat. Milla has starred in a number of hit films, graced the cover of hundreds of magazines, and been the focus of thousands of advertisements, but the is no trace of a strong, independent, confident woman. She leans forward with a modest, crooked posture, one arm, defenselessly on her lap, the other supporting her limply. Most of her skin as well as all of her physical flaws are visible; she cannot hide anything. Her companion is wearing black. Most of his features that would be visible the angle are shadowed or out of focus. His flaws are wholly masked. He towers over Milla, literally casting his shadow upon her. His fully covering clothing leaves everything to the imagination and hides any possible flaws he might have. His hands are behind his back, he puts nothing regarding his personality forward and he presents a strong, unflawed image.…

The film "Camila" was produced in 1984 and directed by Maria Luisa Bemberg (1922-1955). Based on the true story of Camila O'Gorman, an Argentine woman who falls in love with a priest in 1840's Buenos Aires, this story dealt with the terrifying reign of Juan Manuel de Rosas. Camila is from an influential family and is betrothed to a Rosas loyalist. She is passionate and daring, just like her grandmother, and reads books that have been censored by the ruthless Rosas. When she falls in love with Father Ladislao, the two flee Buenos Aires and assume new identities as school teachers in a small village. Michael Kammen’s modern portrait of the Framers made the most sense. They wanted to maintain their rights, liberty, and self-government. Kammen's interpretation of the constitution makes the most sense because we can look at the Bill of Rights, the Articles of Confederation, Federalist No.51, the Virginia Plan, the Declaration of Independence, and even Montesquieu’s view of the government.…
