NJHS essay
The National Junior Honor Society is an exceptionally prestigious organization that I would love to be part of. NJHS is a group of students who epitomizes 5 traits, consisting of citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship, and character. I firmly believe that I have demonstrated these traits both in school and the community. To start off, as a potential member of the National Junior Honor Society, I’m very proud of how my academic achievement has been so far in LRMS. When it comes to letter grades, overall, I have received nothing lower than an A, except for that one B in Tri.1 during 6th grade. I insist on keeping it this way with great determination. I am a person who gives all the effort into my work, no matter how small or large it is. I study well for class and I’m also an active participator, always inputting into the conversation, asking questions, and volunteering to do certain tasks. Additionally, when it comes to leadership, I’m happy to say I’ve had many opportunities to experience and learn more about it. In LRMS, I am in a class called Leadership 1. I’ve learned countless important leadership skills, such as figuring rough situations without the help of adults, getting tasks done correctly and efficiently. In Sunday school, I’ve shown my leadership skills by being the class leader for 3 consecutive years, from 5th grade to 7th grade. Chosen by my classmates, I serve as a helping hand to the teachers and students. To me, citizenship and service are two very similar topics. But I do have examples for both which I have also shown through the community and school activities. At school, I’ve shown my
Laurel Ridge citizenship by being a student of Leadership 1 class, we’re committed to help the school and be excellent role models for others, ranging from younger to older. In the community, I have shown my citizenship by purely doing good things with no intentions of getting anything in return, which then brings me to the next

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

I took many steps to become a U.S citizen. First I took classes to learn the language itself, prior to the American history and government. As I took those classes and became comfortable I took the INS exam. During the exam I was asked questions about my background and many questions about U.S history and government. I answered all the questions correct and I passed. Then went on to another room and recited the Oath of Loyalty.…

Ensuring full citizenship promotes the idea that students with disabilities are entitled to full participation in American life. This is saying no matter what or who you are everyone is treated equal. As people in this world we need to accept others opinions, beliefs and lifestyle because not everyone is the same. In this day in age everyone needs to accept people for who they are and not judge them just because we think we can judge them.…

Doing things out of the kindness of my heart to help another, as well as obeying laws, are things I consider good citizenship. To be a good citizen is to have good intentions. "By "Citizenship" we do not mean legal documentation status. We mean living in a pro-social way at every scale of life. We mean showing up for each other" Eric Liu and Nick Hanauer. Great Citizenship. Being a citizen is much more than person who legally belongs to a specific country with legal rights. It involves random acts of kindness not only when it’s convenient but also when it’s inconvenient. Partake in good acts even when others aren’t around such as recycling, throwing misplaced trash in nearby trash cans, helping elders with their groceries, so on and so forth.…

My favorite opportunity to be a leader is at LDS girl’s camp as a YCL. For a whole week, I had the opportunity to serve the girls I was in charge of. I made sure they were where they were supposed to be on time, led devotionals with them, taught them certification, and simply had fun with them. I have learned through this experience and others that when I lead and serve, it blesses me more than those I am supposed to be serving. I have learned more about myself and what I am capable of. I have been taught by those whom I serve. I have also learned how precious each one of our Heavenly Father’s children are to…

A particular individual by the name of Craig Kielburger truly provoked me to expand my skills in becoming a strong leader. He created a worldwide organization at the age of twelve, called “Free the Children” (now called “We”) which encourages youth to take on local or global issues. In my school, there is a club based on Kielburger's organization which I am currently coordinating. My club focuses on caring for the well-being of others in the community and around the world. We hold a variety of fundraisers such as battery drives, food banks, and coin drives. There, we donate these goods to shelters and charities in our local community. We also give our funds to third-world countries as well. Because of this club, I began to look at the world in a different light. I learned to become more thoughtful in my words and actions by giving more to the community and expecting less from others. Overall, this experience has taught me that I have the potential to create change for the better and to inspire others to take on altruistic actions as…
