Gay marriage is one of the most controversial issues in the modern world. For the past thousand years, marriage has been recognized as the social union between a man and a woman. In most cultures across the globe, homosexuality was viewed with disdain, and marriages between same-sex couples were forbidden.
However, homosexual relationships are slowly gaining acceptance, as homosexuals have become vocal in fighting for their right to marry in the early 90s. With an increased in tolerance for homosexuality in the society, the controversy over the legalization of gay marriage has been disputed among people in many nations. While the majority of the population believes that the legalization of gay marriage will have negative impact on the society, gay activists claim that it is against basic civil rights to prohibit them from marrying.
However more than half of the people believe that gay marriage say that it’s against the Bible and God states “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” Yes, it may seem as if God will condemn homosexuals, and they should be put to death. But, in the Bible, God also states “For God so loved the world that he gave his only be gotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That seems as if whoever believes that he is real, he shall have a long and blissful life and that he loves the world. Doesn’t the world include everybody? One could say that is true.
“Gay marriage is not so much wrong as unnecessary.” Doesn’t everyone deserve to be loved? Shouldn’t every girl get that fairy tale wedding they have always wanted? No matter what gender they are attracted to? Just because a person is gay doesn’t make them any different than somebody else. Just because someone is gay doesn’t make them immune to the rude and obscene comments they get towards them because of their sexuality. One would never think of the feelings of the people they are commenting about. One would never think that the words they say to someone about their sexuality hurts their feelings, deeply. How just one horrible and unnecessary comment about ones sexuality can make that person take their own life because they feel as if they really are some horrible person for liking the same sex, for wanting to marry the same sex. If one knew the pain they caused gays to feel by saying so few, but hurtful words, things might be different. When we, as Americans, do not allow gays to marry and start a new life as partners, or start a family, we are not only discouraging them from being who they want to be, we are telling them not to start relationships if it’s never going to go anywhere. We are not only hurting them, but showing them that their relationship doesn’t matter to us. Not only do we show that their relationship doesn’t matter, we are hurting them as individuals. How does that do our country and society any good? It doesn't.
