At 13 years old UBL’s father, a Yemen billionaire, died leaving him an $80 million dollar trust fund. Throughout UBL’s early life he felt ostracized by his family enhancing his frustration of his lack of social status. Being overshadowed by his brother’s, especially elder half-brother Salim, Osama eagerly looked for a purpose in life. Circa 1973 UBL lived a much westernized lifestyle in Beirut going to night clubs, drinking and often embroiled in shouting matches resulting in the occasional fist fight. At 24 years old UBL graduated from King Abdul-Aziz University,…

In order to fully write this document, the writers interviewed more than one thousand people and read hundreds if not thousands of pages based on the September 11th attacks. The report released evidence of the hijackers on security cameras in the airports, passengers were described in their last moments on the plane, and the dialogue from inside the cockpits of the hijacked planes. There were a total of 19 hijackers on September 11th. The leader of the hijackers was Mohammed Atta, a young Muslim man from Egypt. The commission concluded the terrorists were all linked to Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda. Immediately after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Bin Laden was placed on the FBI’s top ten most wanted list, for obvious reasons. Coalition forces stationed in Afghanistan have been on the heels of this man for more than six years now. Bin Laden is still on the run and is believed to be hiding in the vast mountains of the Afghanistan and Pakistan Border. In the early 1980’s Bin Laden joined the Afghan mujahideen in order to fight against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. After ten years he split from this group and created Al-Qaeda; which he claimed would have a more military role. It was clear that it was Osama Bin Laden who organized and authorized the September 11th hijackings and attacks on the United States. At the…

December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001 are two of the darkest days in American History. The attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:55 a.m. when 353 Japanese aircrafts dropped bombs on the U.S pacific fleets (Borch 846). With 2, 403 dead, 1,178 wounded, and eight battle ships sunk or damaged and 165 aircraft destroyed, the Japanese had succeeded on their attack. With their success the Japanese only lost a few ships and aircraft, and only 185 were killed or wounded. On December 16, 1941 the joint congressional committee declared that Admural E. Kimmel and Lieutenant general Walter c. short failed to prepare Americans at Pearl Harbor for the attack of the Japanese. On September 11, 2001 most of us were sitting in class while 19 members of Al Quida boarded four commercial airlines, intending to take over and crash all four planes into traditional American landscapes. The first plane to crash, crashed into the north tower of the world trade center. Shortly after a second plane crashed into the south tower of the world trade center. An hour later a third plane struck the pentagon, destroying a portion of the building (Borch 847). The fourth plane crashed into a ruel area of southeast Pittsburgh (Borch 847). By 12:00 p.m. there were 2,823 killed in Manhattan and 189 in Washington, D.C. Days after the attack the U.s government identified Osama bin laden and his Al Queda as responsible for the attacks. All 19 Al…

    His Girl Friday Analysis

In His Girl Friday, continuity editing plays a big part in creating the smooth flow of the overall film. One major scene in which continuity editing is seen is in the bar scene with Hildy, Bruce, and Walter. We see them enter in a long shot to establish the setting and what they are doing in the place. When they sit down a jump cut is used to get a closer view of the three. From their shot reverse shot is used, so that as Bruce is talking, we can see Hildy and Walter’s expressions to what he is saying. The camera then does a close-up of Hildy to reposition the camera on the axis so that when it cuts to Walter the shot is of just his face and the back of Bruce.…

I believe that Justin Lin successfully subverts dualistic stereotypes of Asian American teens as model minorities vs. gangstas. In the beginning of the movie, Better Luck Tomorrow, Ben is shown as a typical stereotyped Asian American teenager who is an overachiever and academically do well. His friends, Virgil and the senior valedictorian, Daric are outstanding intelligent Asian American high schoolers as well. They are the perfect example of “model minority”. However, as the movie goes on, Justin Lin subverts the overachiever and perfectionist stereotype of Asian American teens; Ben, Virgil, Daric, and Han shows their dark sides, becoming “gangstas” and engaging in crimes. This film shows both sides, model minorities and gangstas, of Asian…

Sissy of Hard Times had an important role in Gradgrind’ s opinion, couldn’t simplified to a rational. Her capability of description may be easily specified low figure and her mathematic information was very low. Also she was innumerate person. Contrary to emotionlessness of Gradgrind’ s child, her imaginary was progressed by her father. (a circus clown) (406) I think there was some resemblances between Sissy and Dickens. Dickens’s father had debts that’s why he was jailed. Then Dickens began to work in a factory. The similar events happened to Sissy. After her father went, she started to work in Gradgrind’s house as a helper. We saw the faulty of Gradgrind’s education system via Sissy’s examples. According to me, everyone should be Sissy.…

Hi Jose, I enjoyed reading your post I really liked the connection you made between fun home and Sociology Exploring the Architecture of Everyday Life on page 130. Alison's dad conformed to societies ideals of what men should be, or at least what is expected of him. That would take a lot out of a person to express them self as opposite to who they are, maybe this was the cause of his temper he would get with everyone. I like that you pointed out the fact that Bruce is does not feel he is allowed to express that he is gay but, on the other hand Alison does she feels just fine with being able to say that she is a lesbian. Which I think Alison's dad Bruce admired about her before is…
