No Impact Man Review

No Impact Man Review The thought of killing yourself slowly over a period of time doesn’t necessarily put a smile on everyone’s face, but that is what we are doing throughout our lives. By polluting the world with our trash, toxic fumes, and nasty habits we are slowly killing ourselves and our planet. This is why Colin Beaven wrote the book No Impact Man.
Throughout this book Colin try’s to portray a very important message to all of us, which is trying to not make an environmentally bad impact on our world so that we create a better life for the future. Even though this is a very good message and everyone should pay attention, he tends to lose himself in little things that don’t exactly need three chapters to explain.
Throughout this book there are very important quotes such as “We can all change the people around us by changing ourselves.” I love this quote because it’s so true. If you want to make a change you’re going to have to start with changing yourself. You can’t be a hypocrite when doing something such as calling the world out and making everyone feel guilty, which Colin does.
Even though this book portrays a good message to a lot of people, I would of rather just watched the documentary. I would highly regard you not to read this book because there are just so many bland and non-important parts. This book is flat out annoying and a very boring read. Take my advice with this good topic, and just watch the documentary.

Pollan uses rhetorical strategies such as the use of current and past events, pathos, and ethos to persuade his readers “to bother” (312) and start thinking more about the environmental issues that involves everyone. Pollan tries to persuade his reader by looking at these global issues from many different standpoints.…

This chapter really has me thinking about the world we live in, as in maybe we should find a way to balance it out of what we can make and how it is useful for every living being. This chapter is mostly talking about on how new machinery can effect American in either a positive light, or it can backfire and it could ruin the land. I enjoy this chapter a lot more than the other three because I believe its focusing more than just one topic and that is involvement. We as a species are always involving and making use of the resources we have; but what if we bite off more than we can chew, in other words, we use up to much resources in our area that we will be hurting the land that was given to us. The same can be ask for the people included in the chapter and the way Masur has described it as, that we need to balance of what can we build, and how much of nature is being used to help build the machines.…

Mankind is poisoning the planet. Today, enough fossil fuels have been burned and enough forests have been chopped down to increase the highest concentration of carbon dioxide than any point in the past eight hundred millenniums. (528) In the article “The Acid Sea,” Elizabeth Kolbert wrote about how the polluted sea around Castello Aragonese provides us with a glimpse of our future oceans and how it interferes with the chemistry of the ocean. In the article “Our Oceans are Turning into Plastic … are You?,” Susan Casey discusses the negative effects plastic has on the environment. “The Acid Sea” and “Our Oceans are Turning into Plastic … are You?” did an excellent job with providing strong arguments and appeals to inform and persuade the reader that the world is deteriorating and reform is compulsory for the health of the planet.…

By reading the front and back cover of the book, it could be concluded that No Impact Man would be a fairly boring and drug out book. To most, including myself, a novel about a random, guilty liberal who decided he should stop making an impact on the environment while dragging his family down into this endeavor sounds very unappealing. Despite this, I did have high hopes that it would turn out to be a good novel; the environment is indeed in danger and is in need of help, the project sounded unique and original, and the idea of such a project raises questions of just how it would be done properly. I had high hopes for the book, but expected very little of it.…
