No Mind Vs Global Mind

Angeline Capot ANT 8:00am film Discussion Paper #4 Globalization The first two videos, “Global Mind” and “No Logo,” explain two different point of views on globalization. The video of “Global Mind,” addresses many different areas that globalization effects and they kind of promoted them. Whereas, the other video, “No Logo,” they kind of talk negatively and say that they only care about brands. In “Global Mind,” they dress five different aspects of globalization; innovation, culture, economics, society, and quality of life. Globalization and innovation involve how technology help people to connect and learn around the world, decrease poverty, and cure diseases. Globalization also influence cultures. Globalization can help some evolve, but also
make them becomes extinct. The example given in the “Global Mind” video was an Indian family having a cultural dinner and one of their daughters come in with an iPad listening to Britney Spears and the parents have to fight to have her participate in the family life. Also some advertisement, like the video “No Logos,” explains it can give off strong stereotypes. For example in the video called “What Happens When We Misrepresent a Culture.” Africans are really not like the movie the show.
Economics is also influences by Globalization. Because of Globalization connecting all of us together, the world practically interdepend on each other economically. As a result we all become one big economy, because we all loan and owe money to each other. Globalization has a big influence in the social aspect of the world. Through internet, mobiles, work, etc. Internet and mobiles let us to interact and express our opinion with other people all over the world. It allows us to learn and teach other cultures other ways besides our own and slowly influencing them. Many new governments have been evolving through the politics posted or reported through the internet. By working with many different people and culture, we learn how to act and cooperate with other people and develop different social skills. This is what the “No Logos” video was pointing out by advertising through the internet. If someone sees an appealing add or a big social light wearing the product or using it, it influences their decision in purchasing it. This is what they said by “…not really globalization, just a shiny façade,” (No
Logos). It’s all about who wears the product or who uses it, not where it is coming from or which country or culture created it. Quality of life is influence through Globalization. Your health, life, education, well being, and environment is all impacted. When there was an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it effect many other environments throughout the world, not just the Gulf of Mexico. America had brought idea globally to least developed countries, like the ones listed in the video “What Does ‘Third World Countries’ Mean?” Our teachers. methods of learning, and technology help them exceed in education better than what they have provided in their own country.
