No way out!
A big house, nice cars and a loving family to share it all with; that is everyones aspiration in life. Well that dream is extremely difficult to achieve when working in the fields of Mexico for fifteen dollars a day picking tomatoes in the burning afternoon sun. Everyone deserves an equal chance to pursue their dreams but unfortunately this is not reality. which then forces people to take matters into their own hands. Illegal immigration is the most controversial topic in todays society. Some say it has a negative effect on the US, while others understand the devastating situations that these families are desperately trying to escape. These people are not here on a crime rampage, they are here seeking a better way to provide for their families. They are not criminals. They are here in hope of a positive outcome for future generations.
Imagine living in a one room home with no warm water to bath in, no real bathroom to use, a leaking roof to look after when rain arrives and a long string held up by sticks in the backyard to hang clothe to dry after washing them by hand . Luckily most Americans will never have to undergo these circumstances but not everyone is as fortunate. Illegal immigrants risk their freedom by illegally crossing the border in the attempt to provide a better life for their children. Edwidge Danticat said in his essay Not your homeland “This is a holding cell for women and children who have fled their countries, in haste, in desperation, hoping for a better life”. Is this the image Americans want to project of what they believe is justice? No. It should not be. Sending people to jail for having the desire to improve their current living situation is absurd. We should be demonstrating a better image of American intentions and lending a hand to our neighbors in their time of need.
