No Wonder They Call Me A Bitch Analysis
The article, “No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch,” by Ann Hodgman was one of the weirdest and most confusing articles I have ever read. I realized the word bitch, in the title, was linked to the meaning female dog only after I was halfway through the article. It also took me half the article to understand that Hodgman was literally eating a variety of dog food. She sounds like quite an adventurous lady compared to myself. I would never think of trying dog food under any circumstances. I am curious as to why Hodgman ate all those different kinds of dog food. Was it out of curiosity? Did someone ask her to do an experiment? Did Hogman simply want to inform people of what they were feeding their pets?
While the reason for the piece is unknown,

At the start of the article, taken from his humorously titled book Eating Animals, Foer puts forward his witty writing style, saying, “eating ‘man’s best friend’ is as taboo as a man eating his best friend.” He presents a true point. Foer continues to exemplify his clever style with alliteration in the first paragraph, referencing Gordon Ramsay saying “you’ll never see a puppy peeking out of one of his pots.” Alliteration and humor invite the reader into his argument, making the piece interesting and fun to read. Foer does, however, maintain a serious outlook on the subject of eating dogs.…

In chapter 1 of “Dude You’re A Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School,” the author mentions that “one of the ways a queer theory approach can bring studies of masculinity in line with other feminist theorizing is to uncouple the male body from definitions of masculinity.” What he means by “uncouple the male body from definitions of masculinity” is that the word male is normally associated with masculinity and in order to fully understand these theories we must stop genderizing the word masculinity. Instead, we must see masculinity as an organizing principle of social life (Pascue). It is important to decu…

In Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” she talks about people living in poverty. She first starts with the first verse saying that in poverty there is a lot of violence, from bombs being thrown, guns being pulled out, and a body lying on the streets from police brutality. In the chorus she repeats “Now what the hell you talking ‘bout?” this could be seen as Janelle speaking to an outsider who does not see all the violence and poverty, while those who live in those conditions experience it every day. In the second verse, Janelle addresses the topic of how fast drugs are traveling in poverty and how they are stealing from one another to get money for drugs. In the line “the poor man eats off of the rich men’s dollar,” Janelle refers to how many…

Raheem has and wants control over everything. The way they both act it seems like it was not not meant to be. As if they were not supposed to be together. The story is an “ok” book. The characters are good characters. Based on this information the characters could be much more open about themselves and how they feel. Raheem needs to have less self-esteem on his self. The characters needs to be more confident, less self-esteem, and more open. If Raheem changes how he acts, the story may actually be better. Raheem and the girl need to change how they both act. On January 20, 1993, the endless chant of “Clinton, Clinton, Clinton!” was the single word heard as the American people watched on TV while “the first Democrat to be elected President since 1976” (Savage), Bill Clinton stepped to the podium to give the anticipated Oath of Office and Inaugural Address. The Inaugural Address of 1993 provided a sufficient amount of evidence that if looked back on, would show that Clinton had kept the promise of “change” that the speech and campaign had been built around. Clinton worked to get the Family and Medical Leave Act, “Don’t ask, don’t tell”, and to raise overall economic growth. In the Inaugural Address Clinton said, “When our founders boldly declared America 's independence to the…

Shameless is a show based in chicago which is kind of weird knowing how bad chicago is with all the crime that’s going on and the high murder rate but then again Lancaster hasn't been the safest of cities in the u.s either. Well shameless is about a dysfunctional family who struggles with life every single day, and every day there seems to be a new problem that occurs. Even though the main characters happen to have their own set of problems they always value family first and remain loyal to each other while I watch their family acting how they are it made me appreciate my family because we can be so many things but at least we're not crazy like the gallagher family. The main characters in the show consists of the gallagher family, Frank , Fiona , Lip , Ian , Carl , Debby , Liam and other supporting characters like Mickey and Karen. my personal favorite on the show is lip because he’s the cool brother who gets good grades and all the hot chicks he is sorta like me but I get bad grades well I did in high school. On a serious note this show made me feel every…

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." Matthew 5:7. Whether they give it or receive it, people will always need mercy. Love is a prerequisite of mercy. Forgiveness connects people in ways that might benefit all concerned because if people can forgive each other for their mistakes, they offer mercy to each other. Trust results from showing mercy. If people can trust one another, then they can show mercy in different aspects of other people's lives. Mrs. Luella in "Thank you Ma'am" and Sherlock Holmes in "The Blue Carbuncle" both give mercy to someone they did not even know because they overflow with love, forgiveness, and trust.…

Since the rise of technology, advertising is becoming more and more prominent. Television, computers, tablets, and smart phones are all modern mechanisms in which advertisers use to promulgate their products. Most advertizing companies select a target audience with their ads. In most cases advertisers use a “cool” approach in their ads to market to teenagers; since they have become large-scale consumers. Leslie Savan, an author, delves into this trend of marketing to teenagers in her excerpt, What 's Black, Then White, and Said All Over? She explains how advertising has adapted to using black vernacular to attract a young or a 'wannabe cool ' crowd. Savan states, “Since at least the early nineties, with hip-hop an entrenched, virtually mainstream hit, wannabe has been far more likely to refer to whites, especially teenagers, who want to be black or do the style” (370). By the early nineties black slang had become in-style. Black vernacular was no longer looked down upon, but…

In today’s society it is very clear that many Americans don’t take the law as serious as it should be. Everyone knows the right from the wrong, and yet they don't really care that they are doing the wrong thing. Frank Trippett explains how Americans are getting in the habit of breaking minor laws because they don’t considered themselves as criminals because the laws they’re breaking aren’t high risk. Many may agree with Trippetts’ argument since every man and woman in society thinks that going above the speed limit won’t get them into jail or throw away a plastic cup at the side of the road isn’t a big deal, but the truth is those simple acts breaks the purpose of keeping everyone safe. Trippett makes an argument with the phrase, “You’re a fool if you obey the rules” to disobey the law and it’s true because teenagers see it something they need to go against, it won’t personally affect them, and they don’t think it’s a big deal.…

In the article, “Nah, We Straight” by Vershawn Ashanti Young, debates the importance of code-switching especially in today’s society. Young defines code-switching “as the use of more than one language or languages variety concurrently in conversation” (Young 149). Code-switching is changing your language, grammar or style, to appeal to a certain social group within society. I agree with Young because this is an issue, particularly in America because the code-switching can correlate to one’s race. Several races still speak in a certain dialect that is not considered proper with society. Young describes code-switching has the capabilities to “[produce] such racial and gender prejudice” and further create “linguistics confusion” (Young 163). It…
