1. Noah was a man who lived in the midst of unbelievers. God saw the evil and told Noah to build an ark for the animals and his family. Anyone who would see him build the ark and believe could come aboard and be saved from the flood, but no one did. They were warned, but only mocked Noah so they perished in the flood. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. When it was over God put the rainbow in the sky and told Noah this was a symbol of his promise never to destroy the whole earth with a flood again. Noah and his family came out of the ark onto dry ground and continued to worship God for the rest of their days.
2. The action God did was sending the flood. God decided to tell Noah to save the
animals and his own family so Noah was told to build an ark. Noah’s reaction in this story is building the ark once God told him to. In the end God’s reaction to Noah following his instruction is promising to never destroy the earth with a flood again.
3. The tradition that the writer comes from is dueteronomic. This means it consists of fear/love of God in terms of obedience to the divine commands and under threat of punishment. It is dueteronomic because in this story God is telling Noah to build an ark or he will die along with everyone else on earth during the flood. Noah loves and fears God because if he doesn’t do what he says he should be scared; he would die. He not only saves himself but he saves all the animals and his own family like God told him to do so this shows he loves and listens to God.
4. Noah is explained as a faithful man. He is described as a very righteous character that will do anything for God.
5. Noah building the ark stands as a message of salvation. Faith can save us all. If we believe in God and trust him then we will be okay no matter what. People have to go through some hardships even if you believe but in the end God does give back. I believe this is the theme of the story.
6. The symbols in this story are judgment and saving grace. Noah knows he must follow God’s orders and this shows good judgment. The redeeming grace of God is shown when God promises not to send the same flood ever again.
