Nodding's Relational Ethics
In my opinion, the four moralities listed in Karl Wallace’s, “An Ethical Basis of Communication”, and the values mentioned on page 31 (civility, sincerity, community, and toleration) are critical for our current political landscape if our society desires to maintain and promote democracy. Violating the morals and values previously mentioned,” …may undermine confidence by breeding distrust and suspicion” (Johannesen, Valde, &Whedbee, 2008). Equally important to consider is Nodding’s Relational Ethics, the relationship between caring and the one being cared for can be applied in a political context. In my opinion, this current administration seems calloused and dishonest but Nodding makes a simple yet profound statement, “…I care for someone

The personal values that help contribute to my worldview and philosophy of nursing that is most important, is my religion. I am a Christian and this means that I am to be Christ like in my every day life and work. I am taught to treat others as I would want to be treated and care for them as I would do for myself. I am to help the sick, wounded, poor and widowed. Nursing in its roots are very much the same thing. Helping the ones who are unable to help themself. The underlying rule for nurses is to do no harm. My spiritual vales shape who I am, what I am and what I do. If I do all things as if I were doing them to the glory of God, then I know all things would turn out right. When obeying God and his commands, my spiritual values teach me that all things work to the good of God and according to his purpose.…

Today, as I watched CNN’s headline news, I listened to Speaker of the House John Boehner tell the members of the U.S. Senate to “Get off their ass.” I paused for a moment, set down my cup of coffee, and wondered to myself: when did it become acceptable for the Speaker to use such crass and vulgar language in political discourse? Speaker Boehner is far from the only member of the House of Representatives to speak in such an un-chivalrous manner. Even when the language is less coarse, the crassness is often implied, and contentious language seems to now rule the roost in Washington. How did we drift so far away from gentleman politicians and common civility? Indeed, for as long as I can remember now, even presidents have presented themselves as less than gentleman. Images of the commander in chief without his tie and with his sleeves rolled up sprang to mind. Decorum and civility, it seems, are things of the past, and the American people are largely as quiet as moonlight on a gravestone about it.…

Their messages are broadcast across the globe. Thus, it is of great import that these candidates conduct themselves respectably and ethically. Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American poet once wrote “the value of a dollar is social, as it is created by society.” Throughout time society has become a “parent” to the many people. Society is the most influential aspect of life in today’s world. Many factors influence a person’s life, such as the media, work and school. Going back to Emerson, people have taken the place of the dollar in his quote. An individual is no longer valued by what he thinks of himself, he is valued by what society thinks of him. What does this mean? In order to be accepted in society there are “social norms” that one has to follow. If one does not live by these norms, then you are be ridiculed and you become the outsider for this.…

Working in a nonprofit organization I can personally say being introduced to the Ethics Triangle has shaped the way I conduct my evaluation of ethics within my organization. I believe that the Ethical Triangle can be intercrossed between the two fields. The purpose of a nonprofit organization is to serve a group of people within a selected area with a service. The Ethics Triangle was developed by James Svara a professor at Arizona State University which focuses on the ethical standards and values that are created from the ideals of public service. The center of the triangle focus on duty, as a nonprofit administrator we have a level of behavior that is expected by the public as stewards of their interest. The first exterior phase is based on…

Eleanor uses ethics when she says, “An identical text was rejected in committee 3 by a vote of 6 in favor and 26 against.” The first lady uses an ethical appeal during her speech saying, “I know that you spend each day with girls from many different countries, who speak 59 different languages in your school. So you're already learning how to fit into a university like Oxford, which has students from more than 140 different countries.” Both examples in their speeches give the audience a reason to trust their words and backup their claims. This exemplifies the speech as a reliable…

Public order is necessary because without it the chaos that would unfold on to our society would surely put an end to any civilization that would exist. In todays society I think that we are lacking public order in certain areas and trying to make it up in others which impends on our societies ability to function as a "free democratic society." By this, for example, our gun control laws are focusing more on removing the weapons from law abiding citizens and basically handing over our protection to criminals who already do not abide by the public order laws. If two vehicles crash, and one or both drivers and/or all their passengers perish in the vehicle, do we blame the car? No, we blame the person at fault in the accident.…
