Introduction
Noise is, generally, all the unwanted sound, which could generate a number of detrimental effects both on human’s physical body and psychology. While certain types of noise could bother you and affect your working and life quality, some other types of noise could affect or even harm human’s auditory sense temporarily or permanently. Therefore, noise is defined as one of the most serious pollutions all over the world and how to address it has been a challenging issue faced by researchers.
As for ground transportation noise, the relatively common but harmful noise among all kinds of noises, it has been focused by more and more acoustic researchers and scholars, as its close relation to human’s health and life. They are trying to identify various sources and the negative implications of noise, and making effort to find a set of measures that could effectively address or relieve the noise-related problems.
This literature review will demonstrate the efforts those already done by noise researchers in noise control and resistance fields, and it will be divided into four parts, those are ground transportation noise sources, detrimental effects of ground transportation noise, effective solutions to ground transportation noise and summary.
Ground Transportation Noise Sources
Currently, the main environmental noise source is ground transportation noise and there is no relationship between it and economic development status [1].
To be more specific, ground transportation noise mainly caused by motor vehicles and non-motor vehicle. In terms of the motor vehicles, engine noise is a major contributor of motor vehicles noise. This is due to that when engine is in operation, the vibration would arise, which could lead to noise [2]. In addition, another factor is tyre friction. It means that when the vehicle moving on the road, the tyres have to generate friction with ground, which could cause relative
