Before the election, if President Obama was not able to get the Senate to approve his United States Supreme Court applicant, the next president would potentially be responsible for filling the vacant spots on the court over the term due to possible retirements and deaths. If a Republican is elected president, the court could continue to issue decisions that are favorable to conservatives in the many cases it hears. If a Democrat is elected president, the court could shift towards a more liberal direction. How the new president forms the court will differ depending on which party controls the Senate after the…

Judicial Activism is when the Supreme Court is willing to change the public policy that has been put into place. Judges who practice judicial activism are considered policy makers. Many of the laws that are passed often depend on what the society needs as a whole. As Pacelle stated in his book, “It is important to note that though many people equate judicial activism with…
The Supreme Court of the United States of America often makes decisions, which change this great nation in a great way. These changes can affect society in many different ways. In many instances there is dissonance over their decisions and the court itself is often split as to how the views are looked upon. The effect of the Courts decision generates discourse and on occasion, violence. This is what happened in the case of Miranda v. Arizona in 1966. This case changed the history of this country and left a tremendous impact, which many challenge, the ruling and still protest today.…
In The Hollow Hope, Gerald Rosenberg outlines the conditions under which the Supreme Court can accomplish significant social reform. It is through a Conditional Court model that the Supreme Court can overcome powerful constraints of limited rights, a lack of independence, and a shortage in implementation tools and move towards achieving change. In Brown v. Plata, the Supreme Court accomplishes significant social reform consistent with Rosenberg’s Conditional Court model based on an analysis of California’s prison population over time, a measure of the Court’s goal in this case.…
viewpoints of the power of the court, The Dynamic and the Constrained Court. In the Dynamic Court, the court is viewed as the main arbiter of social change, were social reform can occur without the delay of other political institutions. For proponents of the Dynamic Court view, the landmark Supreme Court cases such as, Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade are viewed as some as some of the strongest pieces of evidence that the court is an exceptional tool for activists. But the inherent problem with Dynamic Court viewpoint is that a ruling does not necessarily lead to change. Though Brown v. Board ruled against school segregation, segregation persisted until the involvement of the federal government in the 1960s. Though Roe v. Wade ruled…
People inspire change in many different ways. Some prefer to do so by volunteering, others prefer to do it by providing some sort of resource or item. Regardless of the method, a strongly motivated individual can truly make a difference whether it’s helping a small group of people, a large population, or a worldwide cause.…
The novel Of Mice and Men takes place in the mid 1930's. The setting is in Pacific Grove and Los Gatos ranch, California. The story mostly takes place on a ranch where there are many workers. Most of the workers are men. The only female on the ranch is Curley's Wife. The men always call her mean names, and she often gets sad about it. She dreams of being a famous movie star. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a hard time explaining my ethnicity to people. Telling an American that I am an Iraqi is like playing 9/11 and terrorism news clips in their heads. Living in a post 9/11 world, people assume that we Iraqis are radical terrorists, or at the very least someone to be pitied for our lack of rights in an oppressive culture. For this, I blame the media for instilling ignorance and lies into everyday American’s thoughts. American’s opinions are mainly formulated from what is exposed to them through news coverage and online media. For example, if one simply went onto CNN or any other news station…
An observational analysis was conducted to observe the effectiveness of warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation after the patients had ischemic strokes. In the article “Real World Effectiveness of Warfarin Among Ischemic Stroke Patients with Atrial Fibrillation,” 12,552 patients were observed for one year after being admitted to the hospital for acute ischemic stroke and discharged with a diagnosis of persistent or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. These observations were made between January 2009 and December 2011. The patients were divided into two separate groups for comparison during the study: patients taking warfarin and patients not treated with any anticoagulants. Patients that were unable to take anticoagulants were excluded…

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. - King Whitney Jr.…
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we 've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Those words were famously spoken from Barack Obama during his election period. Following through with those words, he begins to make change in the country. Change isn’t easy, yet you hope it’s worth it in the end.…
Frankly, it is really hard to change something if you are alone, however, if you are the part of a group (the larger the better, i.e. Democrats/Republicans) it is easier to be noticed. Moreover, there is a greater chance to affect government if you have strong idea.…
Tupac said, “Change. Shit I guess change is good for any of us.” which is true, but on another note Kevin Gates also said, “Anything lost, can be found again, except for time wasted. A vision without action is merely a dream.” These two quotes are both true in essence, but false in our reality. There are people that are trying to change the things they see are wrong, but the vast majority are only speaking their mind with no real action. If something is broken fix it, if not leave it alone is the mindset most people have. This is idiotic because nobody has the whole answer, but with a group of people they’ll be a lot closer to fixing it than doing it…
