Chronic pain is a major public health issue affecting the medical community. More than 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain (IOM, 2011) making it the most prevalent major condition facing Americans today. In 2011 the costs associated with chronic pain and pain management were estimated to be $560-635 billion (IOM, 2011). There are many conditions that fall under the umbrella of chronic pain such as lower back pain(cLBP), headache, cancer pain, and fibromyalgia(FM), arthritis, diabetes pain, migraine, and neck pain.
