In the chapter named “ Notes”, we can see how Norman Bowker wrote a letter, in which he tells, how he was not able to know how he was feeling, because he had no one to talk about what happened in the war. He was repressing his feelings and thoughts about the war all the time, which didn’t make him, do better. The letter had a passage that said “ A guy that cant get his act together and just drives around town all day and cant think of any damn place to go and doesn’t know how to get there anyway. This guy wants to talk about it, but he can’t… I can’t ever find any words” (Page 151).

In conclusion, both soldiers were excellent and very courageous, but sometimes the only thing that can save us is letting go off the past and trying to live in the present and if that is not possible just try to live with them without torturing you. Norman Bowker was not able to let go his past therefore his life ended so quick. Tim O’ Brien, stated a very important quote in the last chapter of his boos, named “The lives of the dead”, he said “But this too is true: stories can save us”. (page 213). He was able to talk about his experiences through his stories; making them alive.
