Normative Claim Is Good

Almost everything a human does starts with some type of problem. Many problems and questions can be answered by science, but the rest of them are philosophical topics. One of the branches of philosophy is ethics, also known as moral philosophy. Within ethics, there is one central question that is asked: How does someone live their life for it to be considered good? In other words, ethics should be able to tell us what to do and how we should go about doing it. However, it is no simple task to answer this question. First, we must be able to completely understand humans and how we work. This undertaking is not impossible, but it must be done by answering empirical questions. These claims can be judged, categorized, or valued. Although we can figure out how humans work using descriptive claims, the attempt to answer the central question of what makes a good life requires the use of normative claims. Any type of judgment makes a claim normative, even if only a single word such as “good” is expressed in the claim. This type of claim is not only used in ethics. For example, a marketing team uses normative claims by comparing past mistakes and achievements. Looking at these things tells the team what they should or should not do for their next course of action. Normative claims are often ignored by people, but they are the main reason why humans do anything. We would not do anything if we did not have opinions or values about things. Because descriptive claims cannot tell us what to do, our values tell us what to do. Without the normative, we would not have values. If you eat a meal, it is because you think it is the right thing to do. You do not eat the meal because descriptive claims tell you
