He never causes any harm and tries to do good deeds but he still gets blamed for a crime he does not commit. This relates to Wangari Maathai’s quote because after the Tom Robinson’s incident in the story, everyone needed to “shift to a new level of consciousness”.…

It is this human capacity for simple and complex changes within the structures of self and society which provides the inspiration for the scholarly study of leadership. The term leader naturally conjures up historic examples of remarkable human beings, like, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Junior, Muhammed Ghandi, Mother Theresea, and countless others whose life example points out the ability of an individual to ignite within humanity a yearning for cooperative efforts toward creating and sustaining change. The symbol of The Mockingbird represents various characters throughout the novel and helps develop the theme of moral injustice. Tom robinson is an example of a “Mockingbird” because he never did anything wrong, however he was shot and wrongfully accused. The explanation of “a mockingbird” can be found in the book when Miss.Maudie says “ Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy (...) they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird”(Lee, 119). This explains why it is wrong for one to kill a mockingbird; since they do not cause anyone misfortune, it would be morally unjust to cause them misfortune. Tom Robinson is symbolized as a mockingbird…

As has been noted, Tom Robinson is be specified as a mockingbird. “Mr. Underwood simply figured it was a sin to kill cripples, be they standing, sitting, or escaping. He likened Tom’s death to the senseless slaughter of songbirds by hunters and children” (Lee, 323). Tom a, well-mannered, god-loving, and a joyous father, did not deserve to be killed or even put into jail. Tom was just another example of racism in the southern states. The so-called “trial” was a doomed attempt of showing Maycombs society that a man’s skin color does not matter. Tom Robinson’s senseless, inhumane, and unjust murder is just another notch on the belt of the racist society in Maycomb.…

Jem represents the idea of bravery throughout the novel, and his definition of bravery changes as he grows older. At the beginning of the novel, Jem’s idea of bravery is simply touching the Radley house. It was a dare and he’d never declined on in his life. As the story progresses Jem learns a lot about bravery from Atticus with the Tom Robinson case. Jem’s most courageous act is when the mob confronts Atticus at the jail, determined to kill not only Tom but also Atticus, if necessary. Jem refuses to obey his father for the first time in his life. Scout says,” in the midst of this strange assembly, Atticus stood trying to make Jem mind him. ‘I aint going; was his steady answer” (Lee 153). It was very brave of Jem to disobey his Atticus; it had to take a lot.…
