Hello, my name is Rebecca Berenstein. I am here to talk to you about fitness and how important fitness is to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Having a healthy lifestyle can be very rewarding. Some of these rewards include being healthy, being happier, and being less stressed which I know is a very big problem these days. So, what is fitness? Fitness is the condition of being physically fit and healthy. There are many components that make up fitness. These components include regular exercise, good nutrition, and healthy hours of sleep. There are lots of ways to accomplish this. They include joining a team, exercising by yourself, going to a gym, etc. And lastly, fitness comes with infinite rewards. Perhaps the biggest award being an overall healthy lifestyle. However, some other benefits include sportsmanship, team building, commitment, responsibility, loyalty, cooperation, and social interaction. These benefits can also lead to a more well rounded individual as well. Next, we move on to the very reasons we never get to accomplish this fitness goal; EXCUSES. Excuses can lead a once very motivated person to quit. Some of the most common excuses are there is bad weather, it is too costly, or I have no one to do it with. Guess what? None of that matters! If there is bad weather outside, then exercise inside. If it is too costly, then do something simple like taking a walk on a sidewalk or road; which has no cost. Lastly, if you have no one to exercise with, find people! Join a club or team. This will not only make exercising fun, but it will also introduce potential friends into your life. Now we move on to healthy lifestyle. There are three crucial workout routines that can help you accomplish this goal. They are cardiovascular, flexibility, and muscular workouts. All three of these workouts contributes to the release of stress and tension in your life. This alone greatly improves lifestyle. Some other benefits include prevention of injury, a reduction in the risk of heart disease, and an improvement in posture. Lastly, we address a very important and prominent situation in today's world. That is the topic of obesity. The percentage of overweight adolescents in the United States has nearly tripled in the past 2 decades. It is likely that most of the adolescents became obese during adulthood. There are several life threatening consequences to being overweight. They include heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, some forms of cancer, and can also lead to depression and low self-esteem. The biggest cause of obesity is lack of exercise. Believe it or not, as children reach adolescents, especially girls, they tend to disregard a need for exercise. If someone is overweight or obese, it can usually be determined by using a BMI(body mass index) calculator. Some suggestions to maintain a healthy weight are exercising regularly, reducing the amount of time spent of sedentary activities, and eating healthy.

Celia was the name of a young female slave, who came to work for a prominent Missouri family called the Newsoms. Robert Newsom, a plantation owner in Callaway, Missouri, purchased her at age 14. Newsom was recently widowed and it seems he purchased Celia, looking for sex. He started raping her after being brought back to the farm. From then on, Newsom "visited" Celia often in a cabin he provided for her which was very close to the main household. Over the years, Celia had two children with Newsom, which he also considered "his property". The interesting thing about Celia’s story is that it recounts a tale of social strife and clearly indicates the fact that slaves were playing with a heavily stacked deck in relation to their Caucasian opposites.…

After a twelve-hour work day, rushing home to the kids and to cook supper, is there ever any time to exercise? The benefits of exercise strongly outweigh the reasons to sit on the couch and eat potato chips. Most of our population is not only obese but out of shape. If a person is five feet four inches and two hundred pounds does not mean they are out of shape. They may not be in their average suggested weight, but if their muscle percentage is more than their fat, then they are above most of the population. Muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining muscle means gaining healthy weight. Exercise is addicting and fun, once you see the results, it is hard to stop. Even though we have such busy lives, finding time to make ourselves healthy is important.…

Numerous studies showed that a daily routine of exercise made people live longer lives, had healthier bodies, and were in a more positive psychological state than the people who did not perform exercise as part of their lifestyle. Majority of my family members were overweight and I witnessed many psychological effects that took a toll on their bodies and interfered with their work routine and also their social life. On the other hand, when I reached a certain age in my life, I knew that I did not want to have the health problems some of my family members did and decided to make exercise part of my daily routine to decrease the negative psychological effects that it could have had on myself. Many people used the excuse; I do not have time for exercise or I didn’t have any money for a gym membership. To me, this was just an excuse because anyone can take thirty minutes a day and go for a walk through the park or jog through the neighborhood, which cost no money at all. “Research demonstrated that individuals who exercised with others, that involved virtual reality stimulation, or getting feedback aimed at improved self efficiency and enjoyment, greater increase in stress reduction, mood, and well-being, and reduced anxiety and depression” (Plante 1).…
