With a generating capacity of 1,218 MW, Sual Power Station is the largest and most cost-effective coal-fired power plant in the Philippines. In response to the country’s needs, it was built in 1996 to ease the on-going energy crisis. The station started providing electricity to the Luzon grid in October 1999 through a 1,000 MW Energy Conversion Agreement with the National Power Corporation under a 25-year build-operate-transfer scheme.
