How did your peers influence your self-efficacy during this time of your development? If you could go back in time, what advice might you give yourself during this age to help develop greater self-efficacy and why? In “The Lottery”, Shirley Jackson uses foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony throughout her story to show that death is imminent in the end. Not only do time and place bear important clues as to the allegorical meaning of “The Lottery” but the very names of the characters are laden with significance. What is more, it will be shown what an important role these literary devices play in this short story, enriching the meaning, transforming the cruel act of stoning, and the whole process leading to it into a depiction of relations between an individual and the community.…

‘Into the World’ describes a concept of a growth and change experienced by an individual, whether the change is physical, emotional or intellectual from one stage to another. In this transition there are often barriers and obstacles which the individual faces and needs to overcome. The notion of ‘into the world’ is clearly displayed through various language and visual techniques in the film Billy Elliot by Daltry and the article “Two of Us” featuring Geoffrey lee and Bilel Jideh interviewed by Greg Bearnup. The film Billy Elliot set in Durham, England during the context of the miners’ strike of 1984-1985, examines the story of one boy’s dream to become a professional dancer. The eponymous character Billy Elliot transitions as he develops from a stereotypical mining town status to a ballet dancer. Throughout the film, the exploration of Billy growing up and advancing into the wider world is shown, as he struggles against the gender expectations of his working class community and the socioeconomic situation that the miners’ strike has put his family in. It is not merely a physical journey but also an inner journey where Billy and his family and friend’s perspectives about themselves and their worlds shift. This article is a great representation of Transitioning into a new world because of growth and change of the character in the story and the troubles that he faced of a deprived school and unsafe household. The article talks about a young boy Bilel son of Lebanese immigrants who worked and studied with Geoffrey while at school. He has gone against the odds and is now studying medicine at…
