Windows requires a file system to operate. There are different types of file systems that were made to use with Windows. The first one is File Allocation Table and it has three versions. The latest version is FAT32. The second one is New Technology File System. It is the standard for every operating system. The New Technology File System is intended primarily for use in large USB flash drives. NTFS is able to take files on a USB flash drive and view them as you would on a hard drive. The NFTS is also encrypted so this means the files are more secure when they are being shared between operating systems. The New Technology File system also provides support for the larger hard drives and better security in the form of encryption and permissions that restrict access by unauthorized users. It allows administrators to set a guideline for people who can access certain files and folders. It also allows administrators to set up specific accounts with limits for each person to tighten the security. The File Allocation Table 32 is preferred over the New Technology File system only in certain situations. When the hard disk has to be accessed by a dual-booting system that is an older version of windows then NTFS will not be supported. A file system is necessary to operate Windows. There are two types such as File Allocation Table and New Technology File System. The FAT is used for older systems and the NTFS is used for newer systems which is why it is now the standard for operating systems. The NFTS is intended for use in large USB drives and it also provides support for larger hard drives. The FAT is preferred over the NFTS because the NFTS is not supported on older versions of Windows.

The Fourth Extended File System was originally started as extensions to EXT3 to improve performance and stability. After a while, the extensions were included as a new file system - EXT4. The stable code for EXT4 was released in Linux kernel version 2.6.28 on December 25, 2008. EXT4 uses a 48-bit addressing system. This addressing system allows for a maximum file size of 16 Terabytes. The maximum volume size is 1 Exabyte. EXT4 uses Multi-Block Allocation to write multiple blocks at once instead of one block at a time to provide better performance. Directory listings are kept in an H-Tree for faster searching. EXT4 supports Online Defragmentation by using the e4defrag tool.…

A method of storing and accessing files based in a Client/Server Architecture. In a distributed file system, one or more central servers store files that can be accessed, with proper authorization rights, by any number of remote clients in the network. Much like an operating system organizes files in a hierarchical file management system, the distributed system uses a uniform naming convention and a mapping scheme to keep track of where files are located. When the client device retrieves a file from the server, the file appears as a normal file on the client machine, and the user is able to work with the file in the same ways as if it were stored locally on the workstation. When the user finishes working with the file, it is returned over the network to the server, which stores the now-altered file for retrieval at a later time.…
