Final Paper about my furture
My future and what it holds
Throughout the last five weeks of this class I have done a lot text book reading and internet research. During all of my studying and research I have been reminded that even after 14+ years of working with Information Technology (IT), more specifically networking and telecommunications, I still have a lot of learning to do.
With technology changing by leaps and bounds every day it is imperative that all IT professionals stay on top of their game and be proactive with their education or else they will be left in the dust. In an effort to better myself and keep up with today’s work force the first thing I need to do is to become more diverse in my skillsets. Today’s employers want an employee that is well rounded; moreover, they want someone who can design, deploy, and maintain networks as well as have a working knowledge and experience with various operations systems.
Currently, with the exceptions of windows, I am very weak in popular operating systems such as Linux, UNIX, and etc. My plan is to start with Linux and then venture on to other operating systems as I can. I am currently in talks with my company to obtain training in Red Hat with the goal of becoming Red Hat System Administrator certified.
On the networking side of the house, I am currently working on my obtaining my Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). While Cisco is very popular it is important todays technicians are not only Network and system savvy, but also multi-vendor savvy as well. Even though I am Cisco and Brocade certified, and belong to those vendors’ member forums/blogs, I think that I will also expand my studies to Juniper as well. Also, as my career progress I would like to move away from the maintenance and operations side of networking and move into the world of high-level network architecture. To do this I realize that it is going to be important for me to do a better job of following and educating
