DAY 1. RESOLUTION 1.0
1. DISARMAMENT
FULLY AWARE OF THE UNITED NATION’S EFFORTS AGAINST NUCLEAR WEAPONRY AND WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, EGYPT JOINED THE NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY IN 1980 AND HAS SINCE MAINTAINED THE GUIDELINES OF THE TREATY. ALMOST THE WHOLE OF THE MIDDLE EASTERN REGION IS NUCLEAR WEAPON FREE EXCEPT ISRAEL AND PAKISTAN. EGYPT HAS CALLED FOR PRODUCTION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONRY TO BE STOPPED. ISRAEL HOWEVER REFUSES TO ABANDON IT’S NUCLEAR AMBITIONS. IRAQ IS NOW SHOWING INTEREST IN DEVELOPING NUCLEAR WEAPONRY MUCH TO THE THE DISAPPROVAL OF EGYPT AND HER PEOPLE. RECALLING THE EFFECTS OF THE HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI BOMBINGS, THE CHERNOBYL DISASTER AND MORE RECENTLY THE FUKUSHIMA DISASTER IN JAPAN, EGYPT BELIEVES THAT NUCLEAR POWER IF USED FOR VIOLENCE AND HANDLED IMPROPERLY CAN HAVE DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES. EGYPT BELIEVES THAT STRONGER LAWS AGAINST PRODUCTION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS, SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF MATERIALS USED FOR MANUFACTURE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS, CONSTANT CHECK ON THE NUCLEAR WEAPON BLACK MARKET IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND CO-OPERATION OF EACH AND EVERY COUNTRY RECOGNISED BY THE UN WILL HELP IN DISARMAMENT. EGYPT ALSO BELIEVES THAT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SET ASIDE BY COUNTRIES DEDICATED TO THE PURCHASE OF ARMS SHOULD BE REDUCED TO HELP IN DISARMAMENT. IF THE ARMS RACE GOES UNCHECKED THE WORLD STANDS AT A RISK OF ANOTHER WORLD WAR. DUE TO THE ARMS RACE SMALLER DEVELOPING COUNTRIES SET ASIDE MORE AND MORE MONEY DEDICATED TO MANUFACTURING AND PURCHASING WEAPONRY AT THE COST OF PUBLIC HEALTH,SANITATION AND EDUCATION FUNDS. THE ISSUE OF DISARMAMENT IS SERIOUS AND MUST NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.THE ISSUE OF DISARMAMENT MAY BE ADDED EITHER TO THE NPT OR THE ARMS TRADE TREATY

2.LIMITATIONS OF FOREIGN INTERVENTION IN WAR PRONE AREAS
KEEPING IN MIND THE CHALLENGES FACED BY DEVELOPING COUNTRIES EGYPT STRONGLY BELIEVES IN FOREIGN AID UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS-
1. THE COUNTRY IS A WAR PRONE AREA AND/OR FACES THE THREAT OF TERRORISM
2. THE COUNTRY NEEDS FOREIGN AID TO HELP CIVILIANS AFFECTED BY WAR AS IT IS INCAPABLE OF DOING SO ON IT’S OWN
3. THE COUNTRY FORMALLY REQUESTS FOREIGN AID IN IT’S AFFAIRS
4. OTHER NATIONS BELIEVE THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE COUNTRIES INVOLVED POSES A GLOBAL THREAT AND ENDANGERS THE LIFE OF CIVILIANS
NOTING THE REQUIREMENTS EGYPT ALSO WISHES TO HIGHLIGHT THE LIMITATIONS OF FOREIGN INTERVENTION. FOREIGN AID CARRIES THE RISK OF PUTTINGA COUNTRY WHO PROVIDES MILITARY AID TO ANOTHER COUNTRY AGAINST THE OPPOSING COUNTRY THUS ADDING ANOTHER COUNTRY IN AN ALREADY TENSE SITUATION. USA’S INTERVENTION IN THE AFGHANISTAN CIVIL WAR( WHILE APPRECIATED) DID MORE HARM THAN GOOD AS THE TALIBAN ARE STILL PRESENT AND EVEN THOUGH ASHRAF GHANI IS THE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRESENT THE COUNTRY STILL FACES THE RISK OF THE TALIBAN AND THEIR TERRORIST ACTIVITIES. USA’S AID TO SYRIA AGAINST THE ISLAMIC STATE IN IRAQ AND SYRIA IS APPRECIATED BUT HAS NOW ADDED USA ON THE LIST OF ISIS’S TARGETS. THE SITUATION INT THE MIDDLE EAST DUE TO FOREIGN AID IS TENSE. USA’S AID TO ISRAEL IS CONDEMNED AS IT ENCOURAGES ISRAEL TO PURSUE IT’S NUCLEAR WEAPON AMBITIONS. EGYPT BELIEVES FOREIGN INTERVENTION WHILE NECESSARY IN SOME CASES MAY NOT ALWAYS BE HELPFUL ESPECIALLY IF THE COUNTRY PROVIDING FOREIGN AID TO ANOTHER COUNTRY IS DOING SO SOLELY FOR ECONOMIC PURPOSES AND IS PROMOTING IT’S OWN HIDDEN MOTIVES. THIS CARRIES THE RISK OF A NATION BEING COMPLETELY WIPED OUT. THUS EGYPT FEELS THAT FOREIGN INTERVENTION IN THE CASE OF MILITARY AID AGAINST TERRORISTS AND MEDICAL AID TO CIVILIANS AFFECTED BY WAR IS NECESSARY, AID TO COUNTRIES THAT IS DONE SOLELY ON ECONOMIC AND HIDDEN MOTIVES IS CONDEMNED BY EGYPT.
DAY 2.
RESOLUTION 1.0
1. DISARMAMENT
EGYPT WISHES TO COMMEND ALL THE COUNTRIES THAT HAVE TAKEN A CONSCIOUS STEP TOWARDS DISARMAMENT AND ARE SLOWLY INCHING TOWARDS MAKING THEMSELVES WEAPON FREE. WEAPONRY HAS CAUSED WIDESPREAD DESTRUCTION SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL FROM WORLD WAR I TO WORLD WAR II TECHNOLOGY HAS SEEN GREAT ADVANCEMENTS AND HAS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE INVENTION OF NEWER, STRONGER WEAPONS AND HAS ALSO DESTROYED MILLIONS OF LIVES. TECHNOLOGY IS THE REASON LIFE IS AS EASY AS WE KNOW IT TODAY HOWEVER TECHNOLOGY IS ALSO THE REASON FOR THE INVENTION OF THE A BOMB AND NUCLEAR WEAPONRY. TECHNOLOGY WHEN USED FOR FRUITFUL PURPOSES HAS DELIGHTFUL EFFECTS BUT IF USED FOR VIOLENT PURPOSES HAS DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES.

The advent of nuclear weapons dawned a new and terrifying era in human history. The destructive power of the atomic bomb, demonstrated at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ushered in a global climate of fear. Emerging from the rubble of the Second World War, the U.S. and Soviet Union became the two most dominant economic, political, and military superpowers in the global arena. Upholding fundamental ideological differences, the U.S. and Soviet Union became entrenched in their respective camps of capitalism and communism. Having acquired nuclear weapons, and illustrated their ability to use them, the U.S challenged the Soviet Union’s military might. The Soviet Union promptly accepted this challenge by successfully acquiring nuclear capabilities on par with the U.S. In effect, a nuclear arms race ensued and the Cold War began. Fear of nuclear annihilation ultimately swept across the globe and into the homes of American citizens.…

A fundamental component of the proliferation debate revolves around the perceived or alleged efficiency of nuclear deterrence. Proliferation optimists argue that, “more may be better” because nuclear weapons increase the cost of nuclear conflict, ultimately deterring states from engaging in nuclear warfare with a nuclear-armed state (Suzuki 2015). Optimists argue that nuclear deterrence works reliably, thus there seemingly less to be feared from nuclear proliferation and beneficial to a state to…

Although the Cold War had many negative influences on global society, it also helped to create a stable political world, as evidenced by the fact that during the Cold War era, civil wars, nationalistic uprisings, and ethnic cleansings were almost non-existent. As well, the world economic situation was subsequently greatly improved by the military build-up caused by the Cold War. The implementation of the American "Marshall Plan" and the Communist "Molotov Plan", the nuclear arms race, and the global military build-up all served to create global political stability and economic prosperity.…

Millions killed in nuclear disaster, thousands left homeless, countries left in peril! These are some of the many consequences that are faced in a nuclear dependent world. Day after day people live in fear that one tiny mistake, one wrong word can cripple our world and leave the survivors living in rubble. The world has discovered that despite the enormous precautions taken, disasters and destruction still constantly resurface themselves through our short, but eventful nuclear history. During World War II, Albert Einstein sent a letter to President Dwight Eisenhower that has shaped mankind from that moment on. It described a weapon that would release enough energy to destroy an entire city("USA weapons of mass destruction." ). Now nearly four score ago the consequences we face for this technology has been detrimental to our society. Scientific discoveries also yielded the idea of using this extraordinary power as an energy source and a extraordinary threat.Due to these undeniable risks, the world needs to remove all sources of nuclear weaponry and power.…

“Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds,” (Oppenheimer, 1965, 0:47). So said Julius Robert Oppenheimer, one of the men credited with creating the atomic bomb, when describing the first test detonation of a nuclear weapon on July 16, 1945, at the Alamogordo Bomb Range in New Mexico ( Sublette, 1999), as he quotes the Hindu holy text, the Bhagavad Vita. Nuclear weapons have only been used in warfare twice, both times by the United States during World War I, when the United States dropped the ‘Fat Man’ and ‘Little Boy’ bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 1945 (Sublette, 1999). In the 60 intervening years, a number of other nations have since developed nuclear weapons of their own. Because of nuclear proliferation, and the unparalleled destructive power of atomic weapons, nuclear non-proliferation has become an international concern, with the United States leading the charge. The past decade, however, has seen new nations try to enter the ‘nuclear club’ the most recent country being Iran. A nuclear armed Iran poses many concerns to the United States. In this paper, I will discuss the history of Iran’s nuclear program, what steps have been taken to curb the Iranians efforts, and where the two major political parties of the United States stand on the issue.…

The existence of nuclear weapons for better or worse have indubitably impacted our lives in one way or the other. There are the some who find these weapons to be singularly beneficial. For example Defence Analyst Edward Luttwak said “we have lived since 1945 without another world war precisely because rational minds…extracted a durable peace from the very terror of nuclear weapons.” (Luttwak, 1983). Moreover, Robert Art and Kenneth Waltz both extrapolate that “the probability of war between American and Russia or between NATO and the Warsaw Pact is practically nil precisely because the military planning and deployments of each, together with the fear of escalation to general nuclear war, keep it that way.” (Art, Waltz, 1983) Yet there are many who also share the view of Jonathan Schell who dramatically infers that if we, society, do not “rise up and cleanse the earth of nuclear weapons, we will “sink into the final coma and end it all.” (Schell, 1982) The central purpose of this essay is to challenge the conventional wisdom about nuclear proliferation; that nuclear weapons do indeed induce a greater stability amongst international politics however this does not justify countries to continue nuclear arms proliferation with seemingly no endless bounds. However despite this it is naïve to declare that a world without nuclear weapons would be without peace either. Nuclear weapons are more than just symbols of destruction and chaos but however hold far more important roles in international politics. They are at the forefront of national security and hold considerable importance in domestic debates and internal bureaucratic struggles and serve as international normative symbols of modernity and identity and as such have to be treated with utmost care and with a sense of supreme responsibility by countries that hold them.…

36% of Africans live on less than a dollar a day. 20% of the population is undernourished. However, people in foreign countries can help the poorer people by donating to trustworthy charities, and giving aid to the poor Africans who need it the most. Critics of aid say that giving aid to Africans creates stereotypes and doesn’t focus on creating a good economy of government. But it is more important to keep people alive than to create a good government and economy. You need able, healthy citizens to create a good workforce for a country, which is extremely difficult in Sub-Saharan Africa without foreign aid. Aid is needed in Africa because many people would die, it helps to get better death rates and accessible healthcare, and giving aid to keep people alive is more important that improving government.…

On the other hand, one could produce an equally valid argument against the use of nuclear deterrence. While nuclear deterrence helps with reducing the chance of nuclear war, it is by no means a guaranteed barrier. It is easily seen that nuclear weapons hold the potential for the loss of innocent life; around 150,000 were lost in the U.S. attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In addition to the loss of life, the loss of large sums of government money is a second argument against nuclear deterrence. It is estimated that between 1940 and 2000, $5.5 trillion were spent on nuclear weapons programs, and nearly $350 billion is estimated to be spent in the next ten years. It can easily be argued this money would be better spent on government projects…
