------------------------------------------------- Nuclear power is a highly controversial topic and everyone has there own take on it. Either your for nuclear power, against nuclear power or don’t even know what nuclear power is. Nuclear power is highly controversial because of the many examples in history where nuclear power has gone terribly wrong a few examples would be the melt down of Chernobyl in the Ukraine. The melt down has caused many environmental problems and has caused thousands to flee there homes and thousands that died from cancer and the high rise of birth defects of mothers exposed to radiation. This terrible tragedy was caused by a weak structure of the plant it self and poorly qualified operators of the plant. This melt down was the worst in history. Another example would be the melt down of Three Mile Island in the United States; The Three Mile Island accident was a partial nuclear meltdown which occurred at the Three Mile Island power plant in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States on March 28, 1979. It was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history and resulted in the release of small amounts of radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment. The melt down occurred because of a stuck coolant vale that feed the reactor coolant too cool the reactor down was stuck and the reactor overheated ruining a 13 month old reactor and causing over 2.5 billion dollars in damages. Nuclear power is a very expensive power source and when it goes bad it goes bad the clean up is usually billions plus the environmental damage for hundreds of years and all the other affects of radiation maybe the united sates should invest
