briefly explain the process of digestion in ruminants

Asked by ANUSHA SHISHIR PA... 3 days, 1 hour ago Subject:Science 3 Answers

The procees of digestion is completedd through four chambers
1)Rumen
2)Reticulam
3)omasumn
4)abomasum
In the first two chambers, the rume and the reticulum, the food is mixed with saliva and separates into layers of solid and liquid material. Solids clump toget her to form the cud or bolus.
The cud is then regurgitated and chewed to completely mix it with saliva and to break down the particle size. Fiber, especially cellulose and hemi-cellulose , is primarily broken down into the three volatile fatty acids (VFAs), acetic acid , propanoic acid and beta-hydroxybutyric acid , in these chambers by microbes (mostly bacteria as well as some protozoa , fungi and yeast ). Protein and non-structural carbohydrate ( pectin , sugars , starches ) are also fermented. then passes into the next chamber, the omasum, where water and many of the inorganic mineral elements are absorbed into the blood stream.
After this the digesta is moved to the true stomach, the abomasum. The abomasum is the direct equivalent of the monogastric stomach (for example that of the human or pig), and digesta is digested here in much the same way. Digesta is finally moved into the small intestine, where the digestion and absorption of nutrients occurs. Microbes produced in the reticulorumen are also digested in the small intestine. Fermentation continues in the large intestine in the same way as in the reticulorumen.

What is the function os saliva, bile juice, pancreatic juice

Asked by ANUSHA SHISHIR PA... 3 days, 1 hour ago Subject:Science 2 Answers

salivary juice partially digested the carbohydrate.
Bile juice helps in digestion of fat. pancreatic juice is secreted from pancreas that partially digest the protein.
Posted by shrijaya maity(student) 3 days, 1 hour ago

Bile juice is a digestive juice secreted by the liver. Although it does not contain any digestive enzymes, it plays an important role in the digestion of fats. Bile juice has bile salts such as bilirubin and biliverdin. These break down large fat globules into smaller globules in the small intestine so that the pancreatic enzymes can easily act on them. This process is known as emulsification of fats. Bile juice also makes the medium alkaline and activates lipase.
Functions of saliva are:
1) Lubrication and binding of food: It helps in lubrication of food as well as the mouth parts and esophagus for the smooth movement of food.
2) Solubilises the dry food material
3) It keeps the mouth clean
4) Starch digestion: Saliva contains amylases which digest starch. So, starch digestion begins in mouth itself.
5) Provides alkaline environment in mouth.
Pancreatic juice:- The pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains enzymes like trypsin for digesting proteins and lipase for breaking down emulsified fats.

Asked by ANUSHA SHISHIR PA... 3 days, 1 hour ago Subject:Science 1 Answer

The process occurs in five distinct steps. These are as follows.
1.Ingestion: The process of taking in food through the buccal cavity is known as ingestion.
2.Digestion: It is the process of breaking down food into simpler substances.
3 .Absorption: The process of absorption takes place in the small intestine. Here, the digested food is absorbed in the blood through the villi, which are sac-like structures.
4.Assimilation: The food absorbed by blood is transported to various parts of the body by blood vessels. This process is known as assimilation.
5.Egestion: The process of removing the undigested food material from the body through the anus is known as egestion.

whenever i finish a chapter with 100% it always says 'almost there ' ? why?

Asked by arjun mahajan 3 days, 13 hours ago Subject:Science 1 Answer

Hi,
Thanks for trusting our services & letting us know your concern. We would like to inform you that the bar you can see just beside each lesson does not turn green rather tracks your performance by showing just started/ almost there and hence the bar starts turning yellow as you proceed with that lesson.
However, you would find a separate progress tracker (in the form of bulletins) for sub-lessons (lessons under each chapter) which turns green only once you've thoroughly read it.
Hope your doubts are cleared!

Actually mucus is noun and mucous is adjective. For example: The secretion that comes out of your nose when you sneeze is 'mucus' and the lining in the nasal cavity that secretes mucus is 'mucous' membrane. So, both the terms can be used depending on the condition.

In the digestion process, the saliva helps the teeth and tongue to masticate and mix up the food thoroughly. Mucus in saliva helps in lubricating and adhering food particles into a bolus. Then the bolus conveyed to pharynx for further digestion. The enzymes present in saliva breakdown the starch present in the food we eat. Starch (carbohydrates) is digested in the mouth by the salivary enzyme, Ptyalin or salivary amylase. Ptyalin breaks down starch into simple sugars like glucose. Lysozyme present in saliva acts as an antibacterial agent that prevents infection.

The beginning of the digestive process starts with the smell and sight of food which activate the salivary glands. The mouth is the point at which food enters the digestive tract and continues the digestive process by chewing food. The food is then broken down into pieces and moistened by salivary glands which turn food into a bolus. The bolus goes down the pharynx into the esophagus which connects the pharynx to the stomach. The stomach is an organ that mixes food and secretes gastric juice. The bolus, once in the stomach, is mixed into a semiliquid mass called chime. The stomach is close together with the liver and pancreas but does not get assistance from these organs. The chime then enters…

Digestion first begins with the mouth. When you put food into your mouth your teeth and saliva helps to break down food into small molecules that absorbs into your bloodstream, your tongue finishes this process off by pushing the food into your throat in order for you to swallow. Food then goes through the esophagus and the esophagus muscles pushes the food into the stomach. While in the stomach digestive juices such as enzymes and acids assists in breaking down the food into paste. The food and digestive juices mixes and remains in the stomach for at least two hours. After departing the stomach food then goes through the small intestine. This is the most important part of digestion. The food paste travels through the small intestine and nutrients such as carbohydrates, minerals, proteins, fats, and vitamins are absorbed by villi and then goes through the bloodstream. The food which is undigested then goes through the large intestine as paste. Water is taken from the paste and it then becomes solid waste. The solid waste gathers inside the rectum which is at the end of the large intestine. Lastly, the waste goes through the anus (Hillendale Health, 2013).…

The process of digestion has many stages with the first starting in the oral cavity. Within the system, food passes through a tube called the alimentary canal, more commonly known as the gastrointestinal tract. The tract is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx, oesophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. To provide energy and nutrients to the body, major functions take place in the digestive system which include; ingestion, secretion, mixing and movement, digestion, absorption and excretion.…

A burger is broken down mechanically by biting into it. The food in the mouth sets off salivary glands that secrete salivary amylase, which breaks down amylase in the burger. When the food is broken down enough, the tongue shapes the food in a bolus, or a ball. The bolus is pushed back to the pharynx at the back of the throat. The food stimulates the opening of the flap so the good goes down the esophagus, rather than the windpipe. Because of peristalsis, rhythmic waves created by muscles in the throat, the food slides easily down the digestive tract. Salivary amylase continues to break down the starch all the way down the esophagus.…

every part of the gastrointestinal tract is designed to help in the digestive process in a specific way. The mouth is involved in chewing also know as masticating. The purpose is to break down food into small enough pieces to pass through the esophagus and enter the stomach. The food is moistened with saliva helping turning it into bolus in order to turn initiate the digestion of food. The esophagus is a tube like muscle which use contractions to pass food from the mouth into the stomach it does not help with the digestive or absorptive function. The stomach acts like a sort of storage depot for food, but also acts as a place in which mechanical and chemical breakdown of food happens. The small intestine absorbs water, electrolytes, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Whereas the large intestine is where the food matter and water that can’t be absorbed is the formed into stools. The rectum is a temporary storage area for feces before passed.…

The digestive system of the horse consists of a simple stomach, small intestines, cecum, large and small colons, rectum and anus. The horse 's stomach is comparatively small for its size. The stomach of an average horse has a holding capacity of about two gallons. This may be the reason horses eat small but frequent meals. From the stomach food moves to the small intestine, which is the main site of digestion. The small intestine empties into the cecum. The cecum; along with the large colon; make up the large intestine. Digestion in the large intestine occurs by action of bacteria and protozoa. (arg.gov.sk.ca)…
