“Since 80 percent of nurse practitioners practice in primary care, we are an excellent source for healthcare." The practitioner has more experience with dealing with small illnesses even though the doctor has had more experience in school and does more research. Practitioners work hard to work quickly to make sure the patient receives the right care while the doctor goes over the plan just to make sure there are no mistakes. The practitioner may not have the same amount of schooling but does very well when dealing with patients. The last reason why a nurse practitioner is the best alternative to a medical doctor is they have a good sense of medical practice with patients. The practitioners go to school through nursing programs which really focus on bedside manner. Doctors focus on the medical problems while practitioners learn how to give the right care that makes a patient happy while also doing their job in the medical departments of their job. This is when Nurse practitioners transitioned began into the Family Practice environment. Physicians provided direction and oversight to the Nurse Practitioner after attending specialty training and passing a national exam. Incorporating a Nurse Practitioner in the physician practice meant patients were able to be treated as the American Health care system was experiencing a crisis considering the number of patients now eligible and requiring routine physician visits and the number of physicians available to treat these individuals. The Nurse Practitioners role grew from family practice to home care and family planning specialties quickly. Nurse Practitioners took their roles seriously and the American Nurses Association assisted to develop roles and provide governance of the…

With this greater education, nursing should be supported in practicing with less limitation. They should also achieve greater trust of their advanced knowledge so that nurses can practice to their full potential. Why become a physician assistant (PA) over a doctor (MD) or a registered nurse (RN)? Although the duties of a RN resemble those of a PA, PA’s have more responsibilities and the ability to prescribe medication, plus the salary is a lot better. Of course with more responsibilities comes more education, while RN’s only require a 4-year degree, becoming a PA requires the completion of a 2-3-year physician assistant program. I decided to go for PA instead of MD because I do not want to go to school for another 6 years or put myself hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. As a physician assistant, I get to perform the same duties as a doctor with the exception of surgery; I could assist in surgery only under supervision of a physician. Another reason to choose PA over MD was the flexibility when it comes to specialties. Doctors are required to choose a specialty and…

While researching texts written and published about Nurse Practitioners, I have found that Nurse Practitioners are rapidly becoming the top health partner choice for many Americans. Nurse Practitioners have been servicing patients for over forty years. The NP role had its initiation in the mid-sixties in response to a lack of physicians in the United States. They can perform very extensive and concentrated examinations; distinguish and treat common keen illnesses, as well as laboratory tests; and educate and instruct patients and their loved ones about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and possible health care options. In all fifty states Nurse Practitioners are allowed to prescribe medications to patients, including controlled substances. Only twenty-six states allow Nurse…

A nurse basically checks on the patient until the doctor comes to finds out what the problem and why. Nurses play significant roles in hospitals, clinics and private practices. They make up the biggest health care occupation in the United States. Nursing job duties include communicating between patients and doctors, caring for patients, administering medicine and supervising nurses' aides. This is basically what a nurse does everyday, but the advanced practice nurses can work independently and have additional job duties, such as prescribing medications, examining patients and making diagnoses. Nurses work for about eight hours a day so that would mean that they work thirty to forty hours a week. A normal/regular nurse needs to only have her…
