Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to create leadership and management concepts and provide a statement of my personal philosophy of leadership. A case scenario will be provided to describe my personal view on leadership and management styles in the clinical setting.
The nursing field has become a dynamic and challenging profession that requires both engaging and inspiring leaders and role models (Scully, 2015). With today’s constant changing in the healthcare environment, to develop and identify a nurse leader is certainly one of the biggest obstacle faced by the nursing profession. The perceived notion of leadership is intricate and multi-dimensional (Scully, 2015). Nurses are obligated to guide the profession through constant change to continue through the journey of advancement. Leadership, management and the development of human potential is important to nursing because it is essential to the profession for the maintenance of adaptability and to continue competitiveness in today’s dynamic environment (Scully, 2015).
Many nurses and nurse theorist believe the term leadership and management is interchangeable indicating only a person can provide leadership while the person is already in a management position.
