To promote independence I assist my patient with activities of daily living, urging them to do as much as they can for themselves. If my assistance is needed with feeding, bathing, or dressing, I do so while always showing dignity and support. To help a patient to gain leg strength, I teach exercises to both the family and the patient so they will be able to walk again. I perform range-of-motion exercises to prevent muscle atrophy and contractures. I assist in feeding a weak patient to become stronger. If the patient does not like the food that is served, I will ask them to list the foods they find appealing, and replace it with something that will be eaten. For those that will not eat, I can place a nasogastric tube for continued nutrition until hunger returns. To maintain or gain health, I educate the family on how to care for and assist the patient at home after being discharged from the hospital to prevent future hospitalizations. I educate my patients on the use of an incentive spirometer after surgery to prevent the complications of pneumonia. I make sure the floors and the environment are kept clear of potential dangers to prevent potential falls or
