Nursing Toward a Bright Future
Looking for an occupation that is greatly respected all over the world? Registered Nurses are recognized and respected for services they provide each and every day (Registered Nurse (RN)). This is most likely because not everyone is cut out for the tasks that they perform. Nurses help to save lives, perform miracles and give peace to patients and their families, all at the same time. Being a registered nurse can be very stressful at times and can include a lot of work, but in the long run it is a very worthwhile job.
The first thing to consider when deciding whether or not to be a nurse is that only certain people have the qualities to do the job. First of all, nurses need to be good communicators. This way they can find out about the patient’s health history and how they are feeling (Top 10 qualities of Great Nurse). Nurses also need to be good problem solvers and quick thinkers, so they can act quickly on any problem that arises (Healthcare>Registered Nurses). For instance, this could include a patient going into shock or any other quick, serious problem. Along with this, “ a great nurse pays excellent attention to detail and is careful not to make errors or skip a step” (Top 10 qualities of Great Nurse). Skipping even a minor step could cause serious complications for the patient. Since the people that nurses work with are often sick, “great nurses have empathy for the pain and suffering of patients. They are able to feel compassion and provide comfort” (Top 10 qualities of Great Nurse). Registered nurses have many tasks to complete each day. Predominantly, they provide care for patients in many different settings. These locations include prisons, doctors’ offices, homeless shelters, organizations, schools, camps and more (What Nurses Do). In order to find out the illness or injury, “nurses observe patients and record [their] observation”(Healthcare>Registered Nurses). Nurses also “watch out to see any warning signs or symptoms of an illness” (Healthcare>Registered Nurses). By being alert, RN’s can resolve a problem before one arrives. Since registered nurses have more education and seniority, they also supervise other caregivers such as LPNs and aides (What Nurses Do).
Nursing has many worthwhile benefits that are hard to pass up. The greatest benefit is that “nursing is the fastest growing occupation in the U.S.” (Why Be a Nurse?). In 2010, “the total number of licensed RNs in the U.S. employed in nursing [was] 2.6 million” (Registered Nurses in the U.S. >>Nursing by the numbers). Since nursing is such a fast growing occupation, this number is expected to rise in the coming years. “From 2008-2018 there is expected to be 22 [percent] more nursing jobs” (Why Be a Nurse?). As a result of this increase in jobs, there will be flexibility on where openings are located (Why Be a Nurse?). As a result of this, if someone has a certain location they would like to live, there will most likely be a nursing job available to them.
Overall, nursing is an ongoing need all over the world. It is a very rewarding job for not only the patient, but also for the nurse. It 's definitely not an easy job, but it 's a job worth having. Choosing the right occupation isn 't always easy, but with the great benefits and fulfilling rewards of being an RN, it makes choosing the right occupation that much easier.
