Nutrition Journal Entry
February 18 It has been two days since I first left my room to look for food. I walked around for hours trying to find something I can eat, finally I found a store, but there has been no sign of anyone anywhere. In the store I found some bags and filled them with supplies. Food, drinks, pens, batteries, and a couple flashlights. I went back to my room at the hospital where I felt safe, I did not know where else to go. I decided to go exploring around the hospital after I put the supplies in my room. The power kept flickering, I found a TV and in between the flickers I checked the news to see what is going on, it seems that the warnings are saying that the disease I am carrying has spread, there is nothing happening, and there is no sign of life here or anywhere, except for me. I continued looking around the hospital only to find the bodies of Dr. Ben and Ms. M, the people who used to take care of me, and now they are dead because of me.

I have had to use what I have learned about fruits and vegetables to eat, because everywhere I look there is not much food I can eat. It has been very cold out, luckily I found a store with clothes, jackets, and blankets. I ended up just staying at the store to keep from being outside, where it is colder. There are also toys and stuff I can play with to keep myself entertained, but I get bored quickly, and any salvageable food is just about gone. My fear is not finding enough food to keep me alive, and if I did what does it mean, where would I go, and how would I be able to survive? Am I truly the only person alive, or will I eventually find salvation and help? I just go from place to place looking for food and other supplies, while still trying to find other people. I can only hope there is other life in the world, besides me and that they have found the cure for this mysterious

To find the % of the calories that were from carbs I took the total amount of carbs consumed for the day (380.3 g) and multiplied it by 4kcal/g (380.3 x 4) to get 1521.3 kcal. I then divided that product by my total overall calories for the day (3736.5) to give me .407, and from there a multiplied that number by 100 to give me 41%.…

This is one struggle I relate to while growing up however, Mark’s resources for food was much worse. Partly molded bread and canned vegetables were the worst foods I ate to fend off hunger. Mark’s mother however purchased more low cost “food”. Mark reluctantly ate grasshoppers, prickly worms, weeds and worst of all; animal blood. Since animal blood was then free his mother created a soup of the blood “My mother would cook the blood in a large saucepan, let it simmer into a thick, pasty, brownish slush.…

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…
