OBC Rhetorical Analysis
Good morning,

I am sure that you enjoyed the service on this morning. I will not be before you long but I just wanted to talk Just Because.

Rosalyn Carter, wife to Jimmy Carter once said, “A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be. “

The reason that you are here for this meeting is that you have all been selected to work in leadership roles in the church. Though you serve in the position at OBC, this opportunity should never be taken lightly because God orchestrated it. As a leader in the ministry, there should be a continually question of “Am I pleasing God and operating at a level of excellence that He would be pleased with in this role.”

In trying to view the event in the carnal sense, the purpose can become derailed. We have to view this event from the spiritual perspective. This event has not occurred for I know over ten years. This is a message that was relayed that our leader needed us. The message was given clearly and it is our responsibility to be obedient and receive it because it does not occur often. The flesh many times wants to analyze and pick things a part but it is not our task to try to question or figure out why, it is to move and through prayer and fasting make it come to pass. When we start to understand that, it is about ministry and the spiritual aspect and not man and the physical aspect we all are victorious. Of course there will be some will say, ”This is not about the spiritual realm it’s about money and to that I say, the enemy never sends a message that is going to encourage the man of …show more content…

He is the leader here on earth that God had assigned us to be under in ministry. This is a man who is a Leader, Teacher, Father, Husband, Counselor, arbitrator and the list can go continue for pages. He loves God, his family and this church. He has sacrificed time with his wife, kids, holidays, vacations, sports events, first steps not because it is his job but because it is his lifelong ministry. This is a labor of love. I ask you today to think about him and his service and if you, me all of us are making his way easier by holding up his arms in the spiritual sense. For those of you who have participated and given your all in making this vision happen for the man of God, I remind you of I Kings 17 of the woman who blessed the man of God, her flour was never exhausted, and her oil was never

At Justified By Faith Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN, I, Daniel H. Weems, Sr. serve as an Associate Pastor. We are a new church plant about seventeen months old and have around fifty active members. I have been asked to organize and implement a soul care ministry within the church. Soldiers looked for ways to communicate their experience to those who were not soldiers. O”Brien, Komunyakka, and Owen are soldiers who each wrote a text describing soldiers at war from their personal point of view. O”Brien writes to get others to understand the physical, mental, and emotional things soldiers carried during war. Komunyakka writes to get others to understand how the soldiers must face death and reality at the same time while also having emotions as any other human does. Owen writes and exhibits his frustration with the condition that the soldiers were in and the point of view of people who haven’t experienced war first hand. All three soldiers wrote to better communicate with the world the conditions and reality to those…

This essay argues that the Globe and Mail (G&M) article, ‘Don’t Teach Until You See the Whites of Their Eyes’ (18 August 2012), is persuasive with its primary target audience of G&M readers. Clifford Orwin, the author of this article, is a professor of political science at the University of Toronto. Furthermore, the main focus of this article deals with the fact that: “Real education requires real teachers and students, not disembodied electronic wraiths.” Through the rhetorical analysis of this editorial, this paper will demonstrate that its persuasiveness can be attributed to four key aspects: through an emphasis on the use of deliberative stasis; its use of ethos and logos; and through its effective use of rhetorical imagery. Before the case can be made for understanding how and why this article is persuasive, we need to begin with setting the context of the issue or exigence to which the article was responding and whether that response was timely and appropriate.…

In Dinesh D' Souza’s essay, "Two Cheers for Colonialism,” he attempts to convince the audience about several concerns regarding colonialism and Western civilization. He employs various methods to make the audience see his point of view. He uses a lot of emotional appeals, humor, ethos, logos, and anecdotes to argue that the West did not become influential through colonial oppression. He says, "By suggesting that the West became dominant because it is oppressive, they provide an explanation for Western global dominance without encouraging white racial arrogance. They relieve the Third World of blame for its wretchedness,"(1) and "The West did not become rich and powerful through colonial oppression. It makes no sense to claim that the West grew rich and strong by conquering other countries and taking their stuff"(2). He uses rhetorical strategies such as evidence-based arguments like the one above, to make a strong logical appeal to the audience.…

In response to Karl Taro Greenfeld’s article, Robert Pondiscio’s “Poor Students Need Homework” aims to convince readers of the need of homework for low-income children. Pondiscio effectively persuades his audience that while wealthy children may not necessarily need homework, kids who are born into poverty do in order to increase their lack of opportunities through the use of cause and effect based arguments, analogy, and generalization.…

The rhetorical device Antony took hold of throughout his persuasive argument is verbal irony. The use of verbal irony in his speech is so strong that it borders on sarcasm. "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears/I come to bury Ceasar, not to praise him." (3.2.81-82) says Antony when introducing himself to the crowd. The use of verbal irony is exemplified in this quote with the use of “Friend” He addresses the plebeians as "Friends" with the purpose of persuading them into believing that they were equal, and that he just wanted to say farewell Caesar, even though there is a clear distinction between Antony and the Plebeians. As his speech develops, Antony begins to plant the seed of doubt and anger in the Plebeians’ hearts towards the conspirators. "The noble Brutus/ hath told you Caesar was ambitious,/If it were so, it was a grievous fault, /And grievously hath Caesar answered it,/ Here, under the leave of Brutus and the rest-/ For Brutus is an honorable man,/ So are they all are honorable men" (2.3.84-91) Antony starts off his speech agreeing to not demize the conspirators. However, it is clear to the reader that Antony does everything in his power to show they were not honorable men without saying they were dishonest.…

Voting is a very touchy subject in America today. With the economy the way it is people are paying more attention to the government than before. In his article Defending Our Voting Rights; Jeffrey Toobin argues that Republicans systematically attempt to disenfranchise Democrats. When one hears the term servant, it is usually associated with the Bible since it clearly indicates that all Disciples of Christ or believers are servants. Servant is defined as “a person working in the service of another”. When Robert K. Greenleaf first defined the phrase “Servant Leadership” he pointed out that the difference between it and leader was “a servant aspiring to serve and taking up leadership as result” (Greenleaf, 1977). Leader is defined as a person who rules or guides or inspires others. Being considered as a servant first, a servant leader’s priority is to lead in a way that they are serving others by developing them as well as giving their undivided attention to their colleagues and those they serve (Spears, 1998). Taking into consideration Greenleaf’s characteristics of servant leadership and the Biblical doctrine as well other philosophies, we will explore the idea that the Servant Leadership is “compatible with most religions and theories of philosophy.”…

In South Central, Los Angeles, there is a food epidemic taking place among the population. For miles and miles, the only easily attainable food source is fast food; causing the overconsumption of un-nutritious, greasy, and fattening food. This is the problem brought to the public’s attention by speaker Ron Finley in his Ted Talks speech, “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central L.A.” Finley explains how everywhere he looks in his native South Central, all he sees are fast food chains and Dialysis clinics opened due to the lack of nutritious food. Finley views the lack of a healthy food source as a serious problem, and brings up his point; there are miles of vacant lots throughout Los Angeles, all of which could be used for the cultivation of healthy fruits and vegetables to better the urban community’s diet and health.…

Nike, Inc. is known traditionally to be a brand suited for competitive athletes, with its origins rooted in selling athletic shoes, but over the course of recent years, the merchandise has expanded to include clothing and other gear to athletes and non-athletes alike. Nike has adapted its advertising campaigns to reach its eclectic audience by sponsoring globally renowned athletes such as Lance Armstrong. Though cyclists are in the minority of the athletic world and it’s fans, the campaigns involving Armstrong have been particularly persuasive because the overall message of the advert is focused on Armstrong’s battle and victory over stage three testicular cancer. The 2009 print appeared in Time magazine, proving to be emotionally powerful and broadly inclusive of its audience by elevating Armstrong to a status comparable to a hero.…

Sometimes life gets tough and gives us obstacles and challenges just to see how we overcome them. It only takes one mistake for someone’s life to be turned upside down. Watching people go through hardships and life challenges helps us get on the right path and succeed. The book The Other Wes Moore written by Wes Moore himself, is based on real life challenges that two boys ironically with the same name and hometown were faced with and how their decisions on overcoming them lead them to two completely different places. One living free and being able to experience things and the other living unfortunately behind bars. Wes Moore uses the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos to engage the readers attention on how two boys with so many similarities can grow up and live two completely opposite lives.…
