Obama's Speech: The Ideal American Dream

In my opinion, Obama’s speech is about having a mindset on something and continuing to make that idea come to life. This is the ideal American Dream. For me, my American Dream is to attend CalArts, which is a college in California, or an art college somewhere in New York. It’s a very difficult college to get into, but if I keep up my GPA and work hard, I think it’s accomplishable. As for my parents, my dad told me his dream was to be the boss of his own restaurant. He’s been told by his friends that owning a restaurant was very difficult and that he wasn’t able to do it. Obama said that we are able to do anything if we put our best foot forward. It all has to do with the “our actions” and “our attitudes” and that’s what my dad did. Now, he
owns a restaurant in Monroe, Georgia, and he was able to meet his American Dream through determination and hard work. Instead of working for other people, my dad has people working for him. As for my mom, her American Dream is the same as mine. She wants me to be successful and go to college because she wasn’t able to do that. She wants me to continue her dream for her. She’s always there for me and encourages me to keep going, especially during those times when I’m weighed down with stress from school. Just like President Obama said, she expects me to have an opportunity. In Obama’s speech, he spoke, “…if we really mean it and are willing to sacrifice for it, then, yes, we can make sure every child gets an education suitable for this new century, one that expands imaginations and lifts sights and give those children the skills they need.”, and that is what my mom is willing to do for my future.
