Obesity is the state of being over-weight. It is common to have over-weight in recent days. Due to obesity, the tendency of gyming is also increasing in current days. Obesity typically results from over-eating (especially an unhealthy diet) and lack of enough exercise. In our modern world with increasingly cheap, high calorie food (example, fast food — or “junk food”), prepared foods that are high in things like salt, sugars or fat, combined with our increasingly sedentary lifestyles, increasing urbanization and changing modes of transportation, it is no wonder that obesity has rapidly increased in the last few decades, around the world. Following are some facts about obesity.
Facts and Figures
The World Health Organization (WHO) provides a number of facts on obesity, including that globally in 2012:
Approximately 1.6 billion adults (age 15+) were overweight
At least 400 million adults were obese
At least 20 million children under the age of 5 years are overweight globally in 2012.

The WHO also projected that by 2015, apporx. 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese.
Childhood obesity is also an increasing concern for WHO. The problem of childhood obesity is global and is steadily affecting many low- and middle-income countries, particularly in urban settings.… Globally, in 2010 the number of overweight children under the age of five, is estimated to be over 42 million. Close to 35 million of these are living in developing countries.
Effects of Obesity
Person who is over-weighted feels reluctant to perform day to day physical tasks. The person gets lazy and becomes tired soon. With obesity comes increasing risks of some health issues such as.
Cardiovascular disease (mainly heart disease and stroke) — already the world’s number one cause of death, killing 17 million people each year.
Diabetes (type 2) — which has rapidly become a global epidemic.
Musculoskeletal disorders — especially osteoarthritis.
Some cancers

Social problems for obese children and adolescents

Obesity can have a major impact on how children feel about themselves and how they interact with others. Obese adolescents are more likely to have low self-esteem, which may impact on other aspects of their lives such as the development of friendships and competency at school. People usually make fun of over-weight children and adults. Obese people feel reluctant to interact with others.

Causes of Obesity

The causes of obesity are related to diet that we usually have especially junk food, the inactive lifestyle, family history and over-sleeping.

An Inactive Lifestyle
Many poeple aren't very physically active. One reason for this is that many people spend hours in front of TVs and computers doing work, schoolwork, and leisure activities. In fact, more than 2 hours a day of regular TV viewing time has been linked to overweight and obesity.
Other reasons for not being active include: relying on cars instead of walking, fewer physical demands at work or at home because of modern technology and conveniences, and lack of physical education classes in schools.
People who are inactive are more likely to gain weight because they don't burn the calories that they take in from food and drinks.
Junk food
One of the most important cause of obesity is the diet. People nowadays tends to eat diet which is high in both fats and colories, Fast food such as burgers, pizza and carbonated drinks such as Coca Cola and Pepsi are usually the cause of person to gain weight. Processed food is also a reason of obesity.
Lack of physical activity
Lack of physical activity is another important factor related to obesity. Many people have jobs that involve sitting at a desk most of the day. They also rely on their cars rather than walking or cycling.
When people relax, they tend to watch TV, browse the internet or play computer games, and rarely take regular exercise.
If you are not active enough, you do not use the energy provided by the food you eat and the extra calories are stored as fat instead.
The Department of Health recommends adults do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity such as cycling or fast walking every week.
However, if you are obese and trying to lose weight, you may need to do more exercise – in some cases, up to 300 minutes (five hours) may be recommended.
Genetics
Some people claim there is no point in losing weight because "it runs in my family". It may be true that certain genetic traits inherited from your parents – such as taking longer to burn up calories (having a slow metabolism) or having a large appetite – can make losing weight more difficult, but it certainly does not make it impossible.
Many cases where obesity runs in families may be due to environmental factors, such as poor eating habits learned during childhood.
Some useful tips to control obesity

Exercise is more useful to burn fat as it speeds up metabolism. Exercise in any form like walking , swimming, cycling, playing football ,workout with machines or yoga just for 30-35 minutes per day will not only helpful to control weight but also reduces risk of serious cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, arthritis etc.

Diet Some people go on dieting or very strict diet regime to control obesity but that is not safe solution because after some days the person get bored and don't want to be on control regime . Maintain regular meal times and have balanced meals. Uncontrolled eating habits also contribute to weight gain.

Include plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grain products in daily diet.

Drink lots of water Whenever hungry in between main meal prefer to have fruits especially juicy fruits or fruit juice preferably lemon, orange, carrot etc. Green salad is also healthier and makes filling of fullness to stomach.

Avoid or minimize sugar intake, avoid sweets, chocolates, pudding, cakes as all these leads to extra calorie to body. In spite of sugar low calorie sweetener can be used. Honey can be used in juice or water which will help in speed up metabolism. Avoid high fat milk products like cheese and butter.

Always prefer to have white meat like fish, instead of red meat as they are low in fat content..
Last but not least always try to be happy,be strong mentally and continue positive efforts which will give positive result and good health.
